Are Alouettes Going to Run Away with the CFL Title?

Despite having a stronger British heritage than that of their neighbours, the United States, Canadian football is a lot more like American football than football played in the United Kingdom, also known colloquially as ‘soccerā€™. It has been played in the country since the 1860ā€™s and is one of the most popular sports in the country, obviously after ice hockey, which is by far the most popular sport and is the national sport. With the brief history lesson in Canadian football over, we are now going to look at one team in particular, and that is the Alouettes.Ā

A brief history

They are based in Montreal, were first created back in 1946, and have had a bit of a bumpy ride since. Having gone under twice and subsequently been brought back to life. Today we are going to look at their chances of lifting the title, and you can check the odds over at betting platforms such as TitanPlay.ca Licensed Betting Website, to cite just one example of the genre. As of the time of writing this, they are absolutely dominating the East Division with more wins than any team in the division, winning 12 of their 15 games so far. There have been various reasons and factors that have influenced both the glory days of the past for the team and also some of their lowest points, having gone from owner to owner and revival to revival.Ā

Hunting for back-to-back cup titlesĀ

There is also more pressure on the Alouettes, as they tasted glory last season and are now hunting for consecutive titles. However, in their most recent match against Ottawa, they only managed a very slender win, showing signs that their dominance might be waning. However, despite this slight decline in their performance, they still remain strong favourites to win their division, and theyā€™re hoping to take the title. Restoring some confidence in the fans of the team who have been through thick and thin with this team. This in total was their eighth cup title in their entire history, with their eyes on the 9th next season. In fact, the Alouettes were very close to a double last year, coming in second in the East Division.Ā

Transformed under new ownership

The team and the club as a whole seem to have taken a whole new direction since they were bought by media mogul Pierre Karl PĆ©ladeau. They had been under quite a few different previous owners, having in recent years also been purchased by the CFL themselves. The Alouettes can almost be seen as having existed in generation after generation, with the current ā€˜generationā€™ being purchased by the owners of the Baltimore Stallions. And so far this season they have already accrued more wins than they had last season within the league, and they are also on a good cup run, and their high spirits with the fans instilling confidence in the newly reshaped team.Ā

In Summary

Itā€™s hard to predict what’s going to happen, but if the Alouettes keep up their current form, they are going to be picking up the title of the East Division with the Argonauts behind them with only 9 wins, and they also have a good chance of picking up a cup win again. However, with the Argonauts currently in a better winning streak, it would be no surprise if the heat was on and it started to go down to the wire. Hopefully, for the fans of the club, they can keep up their current form and restore the glory days that the club has been wanting to see for so long now.Ā
