Argos host Eskimos Saturday for opening weekend of CNE

The Toronto Argonauts return to BMO Field for their first matinee game of the 2016 season, when they’ll host the defending Grey Cup champion Edmonton Eskimos during the opening weekend of the Canadian National Exhibition this Saturday.

The Argonauts, who currently sit second in the East Division, look to right their ship and get back in the win column, coming off of a 34-17 loss at the hands of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. For the third straight game, rookie quarterback Logan Kilgore will be at the helm of Argos offence. Coming off ofΒ back-to-back 300-yard passing games, Kilgore has a chance to be re-joined by some of Argonauts premiere targets in Vidal Hazelton and Kevin Elliott, who could each be activated on Friday. Kick returner / receiver Diontae Spencer will look to build on last week’s success in his return to the lineup; he posted Argos season-highs in receptions (11) and receiving yards (146) in his 2016 regular season debut.

In coordination with the CNE and the Warrior’s Day Parade, Saturday’s Argos game will honour the Canadian Armed Forces with Major General Tammy Harris participating in the ceremonial coin toss prior to the game. The singing of O’Canada will be performed by Sergeant Daryl Casselman from the Canadian Army, who will be accompanied by a Flag Party from 8 Wing stationed in Trenton, Ontario. Following the national anthem there will be a flyover from a CF-18 Hornet from Canadian Forces Base Bagotville.

The 95thΒ Annual Warriors’ Day Parade will be taking place at the CNE beginning at 10:30am.

Saturday’s matinee game will also feature the Toronto Argonauts Junior Cheerleaders performing a routine at halftime which has been rehearsed with the Argos Cheerleaders. Following the game, allΒ members of the Argos Kids Club will have the opportunity to meet some of their favourite Argonauts players on-field.
