Receiver Michael Squires of the CIS No. 8-ranked of the Acadia Axemen is the Atlantic University Sport Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 9th, 2012.

Squires, a 6-foot-4, fifth-year senior from Halifax, N.S., tied an Acadia record for most receptions in a single game with 13 in a 21-16 season opening victory over the Saint Mary’s Huskies. Michael, a CIS all-Canadian last season, finished the day with 123 yards receiving. His 13 receptions were just two shy of the AUS record and tied him with former Axemen standouts Grant Davy and Stu Venebles for the most catches in a game in school history.

Acadia defensive lineman John Wilson is the Atlantic University Sport Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 9th, 2012.

Wilson, a fifth-year student-athlete from Hamilton, Ont., recorded 5.5 tackles, including two tackles for a loss of 10 yards and a sack Saturday afternoon, as the CIS No. 8-ranked Axemen defeated the Saint Mary’s Huskies 21-16 in the regular season-opener for both teams. John now has 7.5 sacks for his career, ranking him third among active AUS players this season.

Mississauga, Ont.

Receiver and kick returner Jahmeek Taylor of the Saint Mary’s Huskies is the Atlantic University Sport Special Teams Player of the Week.

Taylor, a fifth-year senior from Mississauga, Ont., continued his climb in the all-time AUS punt and kickoff return record books this past weekend with 181 punt return yards and 67 kickoff return yards in a 21-16 road loss to the defending champion Acadia Axemen. Jahmeek, the 2010 AUS player of the year finished the day with a career-high 316 all-purpose yards, including a 114-yard return for a TD off a missed field goal and a 59-yard TD reception. Taylor now ranks third in career AUS punt return yardage with 1,847 and his 958 career kickoff return yards are the 8th best total in AUS history.
