AUS conference mvp and award winners prognostication

Over the next few days CFC will be previewing each conferences best players and potential award winners. Coach Carlo and his staff worked hard to compile this list of great CIS players.

AUS
MVP
CFC’s Winner:
QB Jake Hotchkiss, Mt. Allison
Could this be the year the Mounties finally make some noise in the AUS playoffs? If it is, Hochtkiss will be a big reason. He is averaging nearly 250 yards passing per game and has revitalized the Mount Allison offense.

Honourable Mention:
REC Jahmeek Taylor, St. Mary’s
Jahmeek has been the ultimate playmaker for the Huskies this year, scoring in the return game and running the ball. He provides a scary deep threat as a receiver and his preposterous 14.3 yards per carry average forces defences to respect the threat of a reverse. He is coming off second straight CIS special teams player of week and if his huskies end up in the first place could be the conference hec nominee.

WR Gary Ross, Mt. Allison
Ross must be happy with his decision to return for his final year of eligibility, because he is making major contributions to what could be a very special season for the Mounties. He is averaging over 110 yards receiving per game and a respectable 16 yards per punt return. If not for an injury would have probably been the hec winner for second straight season.

Defensive Player of the Year
CFC’s Winner:
LB Tom Labenski, Acadia
The senior linebacker leads the first place Axemen’s defense with 50 total tackles and has also contributed to the pass rush with 1.5 sacks. His 10 tackles per game rank him 4[SUP]th[/SUP] in the nation.

Honourable Mention:
LB Ryan King, St. Mary’s
King sits right behind Labenski averaging just under 10 tackles per game, leads the nation with 2 fumble recoveries and also has forced 2 fumbles himself. The Huskies’ defense has held the fort throughout the offensive struggles so far, and King is a major reason why.

LB Henoc Muamba, St. FX
Muamba is posting yet another impressive season statistically despite the X-Men’s struggles. He has 54 total tackles to go along with 2.5 sacks and one interception. Can you say CFL draft?

Lineman of the Year
CFC’s Winner:
DL Adrian Saturley, Acadia
Sauterly leads the team with 4.5 sacks and 8 tackles for a loss. He also returned an interception 60 yards for a touchdown, not bad for a lineman. His penetration is a key factor in the Axemen’s quick start and first place standing.

Honourable Mention:
OL Adam Baboulas, St. Mary’s
The athletic lineman has been a bright spot for the Huskies’ offense this year. He is sure to command CFL attention again this offseason.

OL Stu Walsh, St. FX
The Antigonish native continues to be a rock on the blind side of the X-Men’s offensive line.

Special Teams Player of the Year
CFC’s Winner:
REC Jahmeek Taylor, St. Mary’s
The Mississauga native has exploded in the return game this year. He leads the nation with 3 punt return touchdowns while averaging over 14 yards per return, to go along with 30 yards per kickoff return.

Rookie of the Year
CFC’s Winner:
REC Jordan Caterall, St. FX
The Oakville native leads the team with 3 receiving touchdowns, which all came in the X-Men’s lone win against the Mounties on October 3[SUP]rd[/SUP], a feat that earned him conference offensive player of the week honours. He has also already emerged as the team’s return ace with 15.5 yard per return.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
