Huskies sweep Week 9 football player of the week honours
November 8, 2011 (HALIFAX, N.S.) – Running back Devon Jones, defensive lineman Rob Jubenville and place kicker / punter Brett Lauther, all of the Saint Mary’s Huskies, have been named the AUS football players of the week for the period ending November 6th, 2011.

Running back Devon Jones of the Saint Mary’s Huskies is the Atlantic University Sport Offensive Player of the Week for the period ending November 6th, 2011. Jones, a fifth-year player from St. Albert, Alta., had 13 carries for 70 yards and a TD and added two receptions for 38 yards in the Huskies’ 25-2 semifinal playoff win over the StFX X-Men this past weekend in Halifax. With the victory, the Huskies (6-2, 1-0) advance to the Subway AUS Loney Bowl this Saturday to face the CIS No. 9-ranked Acadia Axemen for the Jewett Trophy.

For the second consecutive week, Saint Mary’s defensive lineman Rob Jubenville is the Atlantic University Sport Defensive Player of the Week. Jubenville, a fourth-year defensive lineman from Oshawa, Ont., had 8.5 tackles, one of which was for a loss and added a sack in Saturday’s 25-2 semifinal home win over the StFX X-Men. Rob finished the regular season as the AUS leader in sacks with 10.0 and led all defensive linemen with 47.0 tackles in eight games.

Place kicker and punter Brett Lauther of the Saint Mary’s Huskies is the Atlantic University Sport Special Teams Player of the Week. Lauther, a second-year student from Truro, N.S., accounted for 11 points this past weekend as he was successful on three-of-four field goal attempts in a 25-2 home playoff victory over StFX. Brett, who also added two PAT’s in the win, was good from 40, 26 and 34 yards respectively. He also averaged 56.6 yards on five kickoffs and 28.5 yards per punt. Lauther led the nation in scoring this season with 91 points, including 17 field goals.
