Axemen ‘right fit’ for Toronto recruit

Toronto offensive lineman becomes newest recruit to join AUS team’s 2015 class.

Acadia Axemen has announced the addition of Declan de Gouveia to their football program.

The 6’2, 290 pound offensive lineman from Toronto, Ontario will join the team for the 2015 AUS season.

In 2014, de Gouveia was selected as an Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) All-Star while he played for Metro Toronto Wildcats.  Moreover, he attended Brebeuf College.

“We are extremely pleased to have Declan join the Acadia Axemen Football Family,” commented Axemen Head Coach Jeff Cummins.  “Anytime an OVFL All-Star decides to become an Axeman, it is a big deal. “
“His versatility on the offensive line is very appealing to us and we anticipate he will compete early in his career for playing time.”

Academics played a major role in the offensive lineman’s decision to sign with the Axemen.

“Education is very important to me and the small class sizes, in my opinion, will help me excel academically,” elaborated de Gouveia.

Moreover, he is thrilled to be instructed by Cummins at the CIS level.

“I say this because he is the offensive line coach as well as the head coach so he knows the o-line life,” added de Gouveia.  “He’s also incredibly nice.”

Finally, the atmosphere surrounding the Wolfville, Nova Scotia campus was an alluring feature that prompted the offensive lineman to commit to the Axemen.

“I committed to Acadia is because of how tightly knit the team is,” expressed de Gouveia.  “The environment was extremely welcoming on my visit too.”

“This is why I feel Acadia is the right fit for me.”
