CEGEP & CFC TOP 100 standouts decommit from RSEQ team.

Two CFC TOP 100 players have had second thoughts.

Jean-Gabriel Poulin and Gregoire Bouchard have decommitted from the Montreal Carabins.

Poulin explained his reasons for his decision.

“The main reason why I decommitted from Montreal is because it wasn’t the experience and environment I wanted to have,” offered the CFC TOP 100 linebacker.   “I am looking more for a campus lifestyle than a school in the city.”

“I felt that Montreal wasn’t right for me.”

With Poulin back on the recruitment market, the defensive standout has confirmed that his main CIS consideration is Western at this point in time.  However, there is no timetable as for when a commitment decision will be made by.

“I will be visiting Western with my family by the end of the month,” added Poulin.  “I will go from there.”

“I don’t want to put a date on my commitment.”

Poulin, the 6’2, 225 pound linebacker from St. Nicolas, Quebec, recently finished a CEGEP stint with Division 1 team, Vanier Cheetahs, where he won a Bol D’Or championship in 2012.  Additionally, the Quebec linebacker guided Team Canada to a gold medal at the 2013 IFAF under-19 Junior Championships and in 2013, was named to Team World for the 2013 International Bowl. He previously suited up for his high school team, Seminaire Saint Francois Blizzard of RSEQ Juvenile Division 1.

While Poulin was impressed with the football program, he realized that the RSEQ school did not end up having everything he was looking for away from the field. Moreover, he did not feel at ease with living in the city itself.

“One of the main reasons I decommitted from Montreal is because it didn’t offer what I was looking for in terms of campus life,” explained Bouchard.  “Its a pretty solid program, they have good coaches and good players, but at the end of the day I didn’t want to base my decision on football only.”

“I had some difficulty with the city of Montreal. I’m more of a country boy and I think I would be more comfortable in a smaller city.”

Like his former Cheetahs teammate Poulin, Bouchard main CIS consideration is Western but will not rush into making a swift decision once he visits the campus at the end of the month.

“I’m looking at Western right now and I’m going on a visit with my family on February 28th,” said Bouchard.  “I haven’t decided when I will commit yet, I want to take time to make the best decision possible.

Bouchard, the 6’2, 295 pound Chicoutimi, Quebec native, completed his CEGEP career with Division 1 team, Vanier Cheetahs.  In the 2012 season, Bouchard led the Cheetahs to a Bol D’Or championship and was recognized for his efforts that year as he was selected as a Division 1 All-Star.

Previous to the Cheetahs, he suited up for the Chicoutimi Mustangs.  In July, 2011, Bouchard represented his home province as a member of Team Quebec at the Football Canada Cup in Lethbridge, Alberta.  For his exceptional play, he was named a Tournament All-Star.
