Bantam Stamps close out regular season undefeated


The Burlington Bantam Stampeders closed out the regular season with an impression 8-0 record against the Toronto Jr Argonauts on July 25 at Eugene Melnyk field with a shut out of 56-0.

The outstanding defensive demonstration was lead by Ben Leavitt with seven tackles and an interception that he ran in for a score, Chandler Bradshaw with five plus a pick, William McInnis two sacks plus another two tackles, and Joshua Charnicovsky added another three tackles. Joshua Chedore scored on an interception and Mitchell Stodulski added another pick to the effort. This effort caps an outstanding effort for the Stampeder defence. Allowing only 39 points in the entire season, they are, by a significant measure, the best defence in the league.

Quarterback Brayden Care had a perfect passing day, seven completions in as many attempts with no interceptions, including two TD passes, one each to Sam Lewis and Liam Garvey. Eric Kells ran for 109 yards, Michael Parent 103, including two majors each. Adam McIntosh was a perfect eight for eight point-after conversions, his kick-offs averaged 34 yards with one that was 59 yards.

Head coach Mike Ramsay said of the game, β€œIt was a great game played on all sides of the ball. We start a different season now. Every game from here on in is win or go home and we need to capitalize on our outstanding season.”

The Bantam Stampeders finish their undefeated season atop the leader board with Twin Cities and Sarnia teams close behind with 7-1 records. The Stampeders will host their semi final game next Sunday at Notre Dame High School against long term rival York Simcoe Bucs.

Burlington hosts semi-final action on Sunday August 1 at Notre Dame High School. The Bantams take on the York-Simcoe Bucs at 10:30am, followed by the Varsity match up with Sudbury at 1:30pm, closing out with the Junior Varsity tier one game against the York-Simcoe Bucs at 4:30pm.

Junior Varsity tier two takes early lead and fall short

The Burlington Junior Varsity tier two Stampeders team took an early lead in their game against the Toronto Jr Argonauts which was a two point game for two quarters and ended with a lop-sided score of 29-13 leaving the tier two team at 0-8.

β€œNo one quit out there,” said head coach Ken Looker of the squad. β€œThe boys played hard, fast and clean and should be proud of their effort.”

Troy Downton scored a major in the first, and ran for 41. Marcus Critelli was good for a point after kick. The other major was on a completion to Charlie White to break at the half within one point. Jon Howard supported the offence with 83 yards rushing. White and Connor Cooke pulled in three passes each.

Jude Armson had an interception and four tackles in addition to the kick returns he fielded. Austin Passariello lead the defence with five tackles, along with Shakim Bennett and Ryan Price who had four tackles each. Bennett added a pick just before half time.

The Junior Varsity tier two team wraps their season on Wednesday July 28 at Notre Dame High School at 7pm.
