Delivering high performance (VIDEO)

CEGEP linebacker newest recruit to join OUA team’s 2014 class.

For several months, Emmanuel Barthelemy thought long and hard about where he would begin his CIS career.

Yesterday, he finally made one of the biggest decisions of his life. The 6’2, 225 pound linebacker from Montreal, Quebec committed to the Carleton Ravens for the 2013 OUA season.

“I visited and I conversed with many other universities,” explained Barthelemy of his decision.  “These universities were among the best and they provided great academic support which is extremely important to me.”

“Therefore, my choice wasn’t based on the university that provided me with the best academic support because at this level, 90 percent of one’s success comes from one’s own efforts and the remaining 10 percent comes from the academic support. As a young man, I always wanted to play with teams that delivered high performance.”

Moreover, the opportunity to set out on his own for the next phase of his academic and gridiron career was an appealing option for Barthelemy.

“Furthermore, my reason for choosing Carleton was because I wanted to branch on my own and leave my household in order to grow independently,” added the Quebec linebacker.  “Also, I decided to move to Ottawa in order to challenge myself away from all familiar faces, familiar places and it is at Carleton that I feel the best at ease.”

Ultimately, Barthelemy wants to share his winning experiences with the Ravens, who only returned back to the CIS after a 15 year hiatus in 2013.

“In the last six years, I’ve won three championships,” said Barthelemy.  “Needless to say that what goes up must come down so I also lost one championship.”

“Therefore, I have great knowledge about what it takes to be a champion and that’s the reason why I chose Carleton. It is the team that is more reliable, according to me, in the OUA last year. In the three years of university that I have to do, I plan on sharing my knowledge on what it takes to be a champion and to help the team get as far as it needs to go. As well, I plan on achieving all these goals with a degree in the program of my choice.”

The Quebec linebacker joins the Ravens after playing for two teams that enabled him to showcase his talent and leadership skills.  Among the teams Barthelemy suited up for CEGEP Division 1 team, Vanier Cheetahs and Cure-Antoine Labelle Wolves of RSEQ Juvenile Division 1.

As for the Ravens, the team is thrilled to have a player with tremendous playmaking abilities and experiences join the fold.

“Emmanuel is a big athletic linebacker who likes to come down hill and has a nose for the ball,” commented Ravens Head Coach Steve Sumarah.  “He is very active on the field and will be a great addition to our linebacker core.”
