BC Community Football 12-Man Provincial Championships wrap-up

The 2011 amateur football season went out with a bang on Sunday as McLeod Stadium hosted the final event of the year with four new provincial champions being crowned in 12-man play. Below are all the results from Championship Sunday in the BC Community Football League.

Pee Wee Division: North Delta Longhorns def. Abbotsford Falcons Black

The North Delta Longhorns, led by head coach Keith Hayes, wrapped up a near-perfect season by knocking off the previously undefeated Abbotsford Falcons Black by a 28-12 score in the provincial final. North Delta lost just one game all year long while finishing atop the VMFL standings in the regular season with a 9-1 record and went on to capture the league championship by defeating the South Delta Rams 24-6 before going up to capture the provincial title.

Junior Bantam Division: Kelowna-Mission Lions def. Meadow Ridge Knights

The Kelowna-Mission Lions capped off a perfect season with a dominating 44-6 win in the provincial championship over the Meadow Ridge Knights.

Led by head coach Arden Knoll, the Lions dominated their league finishing with a perfect 8-0 regular season record while out-scoring their opponents by a whopping 405-57. They earned the right to compete in the provincial championship by defeating the VMFL’s South Delta Rams by a 39-8 score in the provincial semi-final.

Bantam Division: Victoria Spartans def. North Surrey Tigers

David beat Goliath once again only this time it was a last-second field goal instead of a rock that did the trick.

The sixth-ranked Victoria Spartans, who went 5-5 during regular season play, were heavy underdogs against the top-ranked North Surrey Tigers who were undefeated during the regular season going a perfect 10-0. After squeaking out a pair of close playoff games against the South Delta Rams and the Chilliwack Giants, head coach Paul Precious’ Spartans capped off their Cinderella run with a provincial championship with a 10-9 win in the final to stun the Tigers.

Midget Division: White Rock Titans def. Coquitlam Falcons

The White Rock Titans, led by head coach John Martins, knew they were the best team all year long in the integrated VMFL/VCFL Midget Division and on Championship Sunday they affirmed their status in a big way.

The top-ranked Titans, who finished with a perfect 10-0 record during the regular season while out-scoring their opponents 353-91, concluded their dream season with a 36-13 win over the second-seeded Coquitlam Falcons in the provincial championship. On the way to capturing the provincial title, the Titans also defeated the Victoria Spartans and the Nanaimo Redmen during their playoff run.

*Atom 9-Man Lower Mainland Champion

The Cloverdale Panthers, led by co-head coaches Greg Reid and Satpal Birdi, concluded a dominating season with a 48-0 victory over the VCFL’s Mission Niners to win the 9-Man Lower Mainland Championship in the Atom Division.

The Panthers, who finished a perfect 10-0 during the regular season while out-scoring their opponents by a whopping 434-30, will be recognized as provincial co-champions in the Atom Division alongside the Vernon Blue Bombers who beat the Prince George Green Machine 40-0 back on November 12 in Kamloops in the championship final featuring non Lower Mainland teams.

Football BC would like to congratulate all the BCCFA member leagues and their teams on a tremendous 2011 season and especially to all the teams that were crowned provincial champions at the Flag, 9-Man and 12-Man levels respectively. We look forward to seeing you all back on the field very soon.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
