BC: Exciting Finish to Senior Bowl 2011 (Canales, Bynkoski, Feke, Wylie – MVPs)


Congratulations to all of the players and staff of the 2011 Senior Bowl. It all came together in an outstanding game which saw the West take a 21 to 0 lead at the half before the East came back with two touchdowns to make the game very close. The game had many highlights showcasing the talent on the field.

The Senior Bowl Game – East vs. West

Team West scored on the first offensive play of the day with a reverse pass that saw Kyle Kawamoto score a long touchdown. Team West never really looked back, however in the second half led by some great runs by QB Cam Canales the East scrapped back to make it close. Kris Davidson was impressive with some great runs for Team East while Kyle Patchell was a threat all day at receiver for the East. In the end it came down to an onside kick by the East with 1:30 left. The kick was recovered by Team West who was able to run out the clock. Other notable players included Andrew Darcovich from White Rock and Rhys Gilbert from Windsor who supplied regular receiving threats all day for Team West. Gilbert scored two touchdowns for the West.


Senior Bowl Camp Review

Thanks to everyone who made the 2011 Senior Bowl a positive experience for the players. The BC Lions truly embraced the Senior Bowl as all of the players, coaches and staff was welcomed by President Dennis Skulsky on Tuesday. It was great to take advantage of good weather as it allowed everyone to maximize their efforts on the field. Thursday was an outstanding day that was highlighted by the practice with the Lions. Justin Sorensen (Senior Bowl Grad), Doug Goldsby (Senior Bowl Grad), Hamid Mahmoudi, Sean Ortiz, Rolly Lumbala, Travis Lulay, Jason Arakgi, and receivers coach Travis Moore all helped to improve skills and then provided motivation for a full contact drill to end the day. Post-practice Wally Buono, the winningest coach in CFL history, addressed the Senior Bowl with words of inspiration using football as a positive force in pursuing any future endeavors. Also on Thursday Coach Mark Washington continued the Football for Life theme by keeping everyone entertained and focused on his words of passion for football and passion for life.

On Friday, the Senior Bowl broke up into East and West as the intensity and competitive feel picked up in time for Saturdays game.
