BC High School Games of the Week Preview

AAA: Vancouver College vs. WJ Mouat, Friday 8pm, UBC Thunderbird Stadium

This Saturday night the Vancouver College Fighting Irish will square off in a rematch with the WJ Mouat Hawks. The two teams played each other in last year’s semi-final played in Langley on a bitterly cold evening that saw the Hawks pick up a narrow 15-14 win. Both teams have excellent quarterbacks with Jeff Tichelman manning the Irish while Cam Bedore leads the Hawks.

Both teams can run the ball very well with the Irish doing so by committee at this point due to an injury to main back Matt Alves. The Hawks on the other hand get great running from Devin Logan and the aforementioned Bedore.

Both teams also have excellent defences with eerily similar stats with the Irish having 30 sacks and 13 interceptions while the Hawks have 30 sacks and 12 interceptions.

This has the potential to be a can’t miss match and can be seen Live on BCHIGHSCHOOLFOOTBALL.COM. Please note that due to WIFI issues at the stadium there is a chance there could be some issues with the broadcast.

AA: Handsworth vs. Windsor, Saturday 10:00am, UBC Thunderbird Stadium

When the Handsworth Royals hosted the Windsor Dukes during the regular season it was billed as one of the best games to see that weekend and it lived up to the hype. The Dukes pulled out a 20-14 win over the Royals in a game described by both coaches as being hard fought.

No doubt about it either, this weekend will be a hard fought game. These are two well coached sides that have quarterbacks who passed for over 1100 yards each this season. The difference in this game might be where the running game of the Dukes is concerned with the injury to Marcus Acaster last week will put a lot of pressure on the combo of Thomas Kramer and Mike Bertini.

Grab a cup of coffee and make the trek up to UBC early on Saturday to check out these two very good teams fight for a spot in the Subway Bowl next week.

Bob Ackles Cup: Belmont vs Frank Hurt, Saturday 12:30, UBC Thunderbird Stadium

The top two rated teams meet in the Ackles Cup at UBC this Saturday. The Hornets have played solid football throughout their season with great defence and a relentless rushing attack. Carrying the load for the black and yellow will be RB Jeremy Reid and QB Devoun Hallums. Undefeated throughout the regular season, the Belmont Bulldogs bring a lot to the table. Running Back Paul Fletcher has proved to be a workhorse this season that can pop a simple play the distance. A tough offence to isolate as the Dawg passing game features multiple targets each play that chunk the yardage out each drive. This will be a tough, hard hitting contest and the Cup will be well earned
