BC: Must see football games this weekend in minor & high school

Must See Football this weekend

VMFL

A couple weeks ago in The Huddle, we featured the story of the Westside Warriors Pee Wee team dominating the North Cascades Youth Football League tournament in Burlington, Washington. This week, the Warriors are back featured as our team to watch in the VMFL.

Carnarvon Park at West 16th and Mackenzie St. in Vancouver will be the site of four Westside Warriors games this Sunday, September 18 beginning at 9 am when the Atom Warriors (0-2) look for their first win of the season hosting the Coquitlam Tigers (1-1). At 10:45 am, our old friends the Pee Wee Warriors (1-1) will do battle with the Coquitlam Cougars (1-1). At 12:30 pm, the Junior Bantam Warriors (1-1) will face the Coquitlam Vikings (1-1). The final game of the day at Carnarvon Park goes at 2:30 pm and will feature the 9-man Bantam Warriors (2-0) looking to keep their perfect season intact when they butt heads with another undefeated team in the North Delta Longhorns (2-0).

VCFL

There is a pair of highlighted games in the VCFL this weekend with the first being an Atom Division tilt between a pair of 2-0 teams in the Meadow Ridge Blue Knights and the Mission Niners. The game kicks off at 9 am on Saturday, September 17 at Heritage Park Secondary School in Mission.

The other game of the week is a Midget division clash also between a pair of 2-0 teams in the North Surrey Bears and the Chilliwack Giants. The game goes on Saturday night at 7 pm at Townsend Park.

SIFC

Grahame Park is our featured venue this week in SIFC action as it will host a tripleheader of games this Sunday, September 18.

The action gets underway at 10 am when the Atom Vernon Blue Bombers host the Kamloops Broncos. At noon, the Pee Wee Vernon Yellow Jackets will face the Kamloops Wildcats. The day’s action concludes with a Junior Bantam clash between the Vernon Marauders and the Kamloops Wildcats at 2 pm.

BC High School Football

The exhibition schedule continues in BC High School Football this weekend with the featured match-up taking place at Carson Graham Secondary School in North Vancouver on Saturday, September 17 when the Carson Graham Eagles host the Handsworth Royals at 1:30 pm.

If you can’t make it out to the game in person, you can watch it live online at sportscanada.tv.

The Eagles managed to squeak by the Kelowna Owls last weekend in an exhibition contest on home turf escaping with a 30-29 victory. The Royals were blanked by the West Vancouver Highlanders 12-0 last week.

BCFC

On Saturday afternoon in Vancouver, the BC Lions were celebrating the “End of an Empire.” That same day in Nanaimo, the Vancouver Island Raiders were celebrating the continuation of a dynasty.

The Raiders became the fastest team in BCFC history to reach the 60-win mark by doing so in their 66th game with a convincing 52-8 victory over the Westshore Rebels. The win kept the Raiders’ perfect season alive by improving their season record to 6-0.

It’s tough to envision a scenario where the Raiders won’t emerge with a 7-0 following this weekend as they travel to Hillside Stadium to take on the Kamloops Broncos in Week Eight action. The Broncos (1-5) are on a four-game losing streak – most recently falling 43-7 to the Langley Rams last Saturday – and are quickly falling out of playoff contention. Kickoff is 7 pm on Saturday, September 17.

The Rebels (3-3), meanwhile, look to rebound from the loss to the Raiders when they return home to host the Okanagan Sun at Bear Mountain Stadium. The Sun (5-1) rebounded from their first loss of the season to the Raiders back in Week Five with a solid 42-7 thrashing of the winless Chilliwack Huskers at the Apple Bowl this past Sunday. The Rebels/Sun game also kicks off at 7 pm on Saturday.

The third game this Saturday in the BCFC will see the Langley Rams (3-3) look to stretch their win streak to four consecutive games when they visit Exhibition Stadium to take on the Huskers. Game time is 7 pm.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
