BC: Must See Football this weekend in minor, high school & junior (Oct 6) VIDEO

VMFL

This week’s featured VMFL Midget Division match-up sees the North Delta Longhorns (4-1) travelling to South Surrey Athletic Park to try and end the undefeated run of the WRSS Titans (5-0). Game time is 3:30 pm PT on Sunday, October 9.

The Longhorns’ only loss this season came back in Week 2 when they fell 14-13 to Coquitlam.

The Titans have a potent offense that has amassed an amazing 205 points to date. However, they will be facing a stingy Longhorn defense that sits second best in the league with only 31 points allowed.

Another key game in VMFL action comes from the Bantam 9-man division and will also have a North Delta connection with the Longhorns looking to keep their undefeated season intact when they visit Townsend Park to face the Chilliwack Giants. Game time is 3 pm PT on Saturday, October 8.

The Giants were, at least in the opinion of some, upset this past week at the hands of Mission suffering their first loss to drop to 4-1 leaving only the Longhorns as the lone undefeated team. Saturday’s contest between the Longhorns and Giants will mark their first of two head-to-head games this season and is a pivotal match-up that will probably decide the division winner.

VCFL

Townsend Park in Chilliwack is the place to be this Saturday, October 8 as there will be a total of six games taking place on that field.

Our spotlighted games include at Atom Division clash between the Abbotsford Falcons (3-2) and Chilliwack Blue Giants (2-3) kicking off the day’s action at 9:30 am. The Pee Wee teams for Abbotsford Black (5-0) and Chilliwack Blue (3-2) will take to the field 11:15 pm.

Later in the day there are two big games in 9-man and 12-man bantam, respectively. In the 9-man division, it’s a battle of the top two teams as North Delta battles Chilliwack at 3 pm (see above VMFL entry for more details) followed by a big 12-man bantam showdown between the South Delta Rams (4-0) and the Chilliwack Giants (3-1) at 5 pm.

SIFC

It’s Thanksgiving long weekend which means Monday football in the SFIC.

The Tournament Capital Centre in Kamloops will be hosting three games beginning at 9 am with a Pee Wee division clash between the Kamloops Broncos and the Kamloops Wildcats.

At 11 am, it’s an Atom division tilt between the Vernon Blue Bombers and the Kamloops Broncos. The day’s action wraps up with a Junior Bantam contest between the Kamloops Broncos and Kamloops Wildcats that kicks off at 1 pm.

BC High School Football

The regular season gets underway in full swing this week and the marquee match-up of the week will take place out at Burnaby Lakes where the WJ Mouat Hawks will clash with the St. Thomas More Knights. Kickoff is at 7:30 pm on Friday, October 7. If you can’t make it out to the game in person, you can watch it live online at sportscanada.tv.

Both the Knights and Hawks are coming off strong pre-seasons with St. Thomas More posting a perfect 3-0 record and WJ Mouat with just one blemish on their exhibition record finishing at 3-1.

The Knights have not had game action since concluding their pre-season with a convincing 55-28 win over the Holy Cross Crusaders. The Hawks closed out their exhibition campaign by pounding the defending AAA champion Vancouver College Fighting Irish on Saturday by a final score of 42-14.

BCFC

It’s the final week of regular season action in the BCFC and without a doubt the marquee match-up of the week will be the very last game on the BCFC’s schedule involving the Vancouver Island Raiders (9-0) and the Okanagan Sun (8-1) on Sunday afternoon at 1 pm PT at the Apple Bowl.

There is definitely no love lost between these two bitter rivals who, barring major a major upset in the opening round of the playoffs, will likely meet again in three weeks to go head-to-head for the BCFC Cullen Cup. Where that championship game takes place will likely be determined by Sunday’s result.

The Sun need to win by 14 or more points to clinch first place overall in the standings and a chance to host to the Cullen Cup game at the Apple Bowl provided they get out of the first round. These two teams met back in Week 5 at Caledonia Park with the Raiders scoring a 33-20 victory.

Another game with playoff implications on this week’s schedule goes at Bear Mountain Stadium on Saturday when the Westshore Rebels (5-4) host the Langley Rams (4-5). Kickoff is 4 pm PT. The Rams have a chance to move up to third place in the standings and avoid a potential first-round meeting with the Raiders if they can defeat the Rebels by eight or more points. These two teams met a couple of weeks ago at McLeod Stadium in Langley with the Rebels coming out on top 35-28.

The final game in the BCFC this week involves a pair of non-playoff teams with the winless Chilliwack Huskers (0-9) making the trip up to Hillside Stadium to face the Kamloops Broncos (1-8). Kickoff is 7 pm PT on Saturday.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
