BC: Must See Football this weekend in minor, high school & junior (Sept 29)

Must See Football this weekend

VMFL

This week’s featured VMFL Midget Division match-up sees the Victoria Spartans (4-0) travel up the Island to play the Nanaimo Redmen (3-1) who are stinging after having their undefeated season snapped by a 14-11 loss at the hands of the North Delta Longhorns last weekend. With only White Rock and Victoria left undefeated in the VMFL, Nanaimo needs a win to stay near the top of the Integrated Midget Division.

Last year, the Redmen defeated the Spartans in Week One action but it was Victoria that ended up having the Cinderella season as they went on to win the BC Provincial Championship at the Midget level. The Spartans/Redmen tilt goes Sunday, October 2 at 3 pm PT at Pioneer Park in Nanaimo.

Another key match-up to watch in the VMFL this week comes from the Pee Wee Division where a pair of undefeated teams will go head-to-head on Sunday. The White Rock Titans (4-0) will travel to Cloverdale to face the Bobcats (4-0), the latter who have yet to yield a major all year. White Rock has put up some big numbers on offense and should give the Bobcats a challenge in keeping them out of the end zone. Game time is 11:45 at Cloverdale Athletic Park.

VCFL

This week’s featured match-up comes from the newly-formed Bantam 9-man Division when the Chilliwack Giants – boasting a perfect 4-0 record to start the season – head to Heritage Park to face the Mission Niners, who are 2-2 on the season. The game goes this Saturday, October 1 and will kickoff at 2:30 pm PT.

These two teams met back in their respective season openers on September 3 at Townsend Park in Chilliwack with the Giants scoring a 27-21 win thanks to a last play touchdown. The Niners will be looking to avenge that season-opening loss and become the first team to take down the Giants this season.

Both teams are coming off big wins last week with Chilliwack shutting out Burnaby 21-0 last Saturday and Mission pounding Vancouver 53-12 last Sunday.

SIFC

Can anyone take down the undefeated Vernon Magnums Midget team? That will be the big question once again this weekend.

The Magnums are a perfect 4-0 to start the season and they’ll look to make it 5-0 when they travel to Invermere this Sunday, October 2 to face the Invermere Big Horns. These two teams met back on September 11 with the Magnums shutting down the Big Horns with a dominating 33-0 victory. Kickoff for Sunday’s game is at noon.

BC High School Football

The long wait for the start of the BC High School Football regular season is down to one week for most teams but a pair of teams will get an early start to playing for keeps in this week’s featured contest.

The Salmon Arm Golds and Kelowna Owls will kickoff their regular season this Friday, September 30 at the Apple Bowl in Kelowna. Kickoff is at 4 pm PT.

The Golds concluded their exhibition schedule with a 1-2 record but are coming off a particularly humbling loss last week to the Vancouver College Fighting Irish who shut them out on the Golds’ own home turf by a score of 34-0.

The Owls were winless in four exhibition games most recently dropping a 51-22 decision to the Terry Fox Ravens at Percy Perry Stadium last Friday.

If you can’t make it out to the game in person, you can watch it live online at sportscanada.tv.

BCFC

Just two weeks remain in the BCFC’s regular season and a playoff preview is the highlight of the schedule this week.

The undefeated Vancouver Island Raiders (8-0) will host the Langley Rams (4-4) at Caledonia Park this Saturday, October 1 at 2 pm in a game that could be repeated in a couple of weeks depending on how the Rams’ final two games goes.

The Rams had an opportunity to secure third spot and avoid a potential first-round playoff meeting with the Raiders but dropped a 35-28 decision to the Westshore Rebels last week – the team they are jockeying for position in the standings with. Despite the loss, both the Rams and Rebels clinched playoff berths with the Kamloops Broncos’ 50-6 loss to the Okanagan Sun.

The Rebels (4-4) will look to get a leg up on the Rams with a win at Hillside Stadium this Saturday over the struggling Kamloops Broncos (1-7). Kickoff goes at 7 pm.

The final game on the schedule this week will see the winless Chilliwack Huskers (0-8) playing host to the Okanagan Sun (7-1) at Exhibition Stadium. Kickoff is 2 pm. (Please note that the kickoff time for this game has been changed. It was originally scheduled to start at 7 pm).
