BC: Must See Football this weekend in minor, high school & junior (video)

VMFL

This Sunday, September 25 features another great match-up in the Integrated Midget division where the North Delta Longhorns, who are sitting at 2-1, will be hosting the Nanaimo Redmen, who come into the game with a perfect 3-0 record.

Both teams have presented tough defense to date this year with the Redmen giving up only one major this year while the Longhorns have yielded only two. It was only two years ago that these teams met in the 2009 VMFL Finals where the underdog Redmen kicked a field goal for the only points of the game for a 3-0 win to earn a spot in the Provincial Championship game. Fans can probably expect more of the same this Sunday.

Game time is 1:15 pm at John Oliver Park in Delta.

VCFL

This week’s game of the week from the VCFL comes from the Junior Bantam division when the Abbotsford Falcons (2-1) travel to Samuel Robertson Technical School in Maple Ridge to try and hand the Meadow Ridge Knights (3-0) their first loss of the season.

These same two teams met back in Week 1 with the Knights knocking off the Falcons by a slim 11-8 margin.

Kickoff is 2:30 pm PT on Saturday, September 24.

SIFC

The Little Mountain Sports Complex in Salmon Arm will be the place to be for SIFC action this weekend as it will host a triple-header of games this Sunday, September 25.

The action gets underway at 10 am with an Atom division tilt between Vernon Blue Bombers and Salmon Arm Mustangs. At 12 pm, it’s a Pee Wee clash between the West Kelowna Sundevils and the Salmon Arm Colts. Finally at 2 pm, it’s Junior Bantam division action between the West Kelowna Sundevils and Salmon Arm Broncos.

BC High School Football

Just two weeks are left before they kick off for keeps in BC High School Football and this week’s marquee contest features a pair of teams still looking to fine tune their games before the start of the regular season when the New Westminster Hyacks host the Mt. Boucherie Bears at Mercer Stadium in New Westminster. Kickoff is 7:30 pm PT on Friday, September 23.

The exhibition schedule has not gone as well as the Hyacks would have liked so far as they have posted a record of just 1-2 in three pre-season tilts so far and are coming off a 33-6 loss to the Terry Fox Ravens last Friday. The Hyacks have one more pre-season game to go after this Friday’s contest as they will host the Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers next week.

The Bears are concluding their pre-season schedule tonight and are hoping to improve their record to a perfect 3-0 following wins over Clarence Fulton (34-14) and Rick Hansen (28-24).

If you can’t make it out to the game in person, you can watch it live online at sportscanada.tv.

BCFC

There are just three weeks remaining in the BCFC’s regular season and the playoff picture is starting to become clear.

The top of that list is of no surprises as both the Vancouver Island Raiders (7-0) and Okanagan Sun (6-1) have booked their ticket to the post-season. The Langley Rams (4-3) are poised to join that list and could officially secure their spot as early as this weekend when they host the Westshore Rebels at McLeod Stadium on Saturday, September 24 (4 pm kickoff).

The Rams are coming off a 20-7 victory over the Chilliwack Huskers last Saturday while the Rebels (3-4) were pounded 69-0 by the Okanagan Sun on home turf also on Saturday. This game could have significant playoff implications as a victory for the Rams would all-but-secure third place in the BCFC standings and avoid a potential first-round playoff date with the powerhouse Raiders.

Other games this week include the BCFC’s top team, the Raiders, hosting the still winless Huskers (0-7) at Caledonia Park on Saturday (2 pm kickoff) and the Okanagan Sun looking to extend the Kamloops Broncos’ (1-6) winless streak to six games at the Apple Bowl on Sunday, September 25 at 2 pm.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
