BC: Must See Football this weekend in minor, high school (Nov 3)

VMFL

The Bantam 9-man division has showcased some amazing talent and exciting games this year in the VMFL. The Provincial Semi-Final – featuring the #2 ranked Westside Warriors going up against the #1 North Delta Longhorns – will no doubt prove to be the game of the week as it will decide who represents the Lower Mainland at the BC Provincial Championships next week in Kamloops. Game time is 5:15 pm at John Oliver Park in North Delta on Sunday, November 6.

Westside defeated Chilliwack last weekend by a 24-8 score and have shown they can put up points this season. North Delta is coming off a strong win against Mission last weekend after losing their only game of the year to Chilliwack the week before. The Warriors have faced the Longhorns twice this year losing a close one at home by a 25-19 score but were also shutout in North Delta 38-0.

Another key match-up from the VMFL comes from the Bantam 12-man division featuring a battle between the South Delta Rams (7-1) and the North Surrey Tigers (8-0). Game time is 11:00 am at Bear Creek Park in North Surrey on Sunday, November 6.

With just two weeks left on the schedule, the North Surrey Tigers (8-0) remain undefeated and tied for first place with the Cowichan Bulldogs. Not to be forgotten about, the South Delta Rams sit only two points back of first place and are looking at the rare home and away series against the Tigers as a big opportunity to possibly grab top spot. Both teams show fire power on offense with strong aerial attacks but, as the weather turns, it may be the defense that dictates who wins this series.

The Tigers are coming off two close games with a 17-14 win over Victoria and a 31-30 fight with Langley last weekend. The Rams’ only loss this season came in Week 6 at the hands of the undefeated Cowichan Bulldogs.

VCFL

It’s the final week of regular season action for the Pee Wee division in the VCFL and there is a tilt with major implications this Saturday, November 5 out at Samuel Robertson Technical School when Abbotsford White (6-3) faces Meadow Ridge Gold (7-2).

Both teams can finish anywhere from second to fourth place in the standings which is crucial because it could mean avoiding a first-round match-up with the currently undefeated Abbotsford Black team. These two teams met just three short weeks ago on October 15 out at Rotary Stadium in Abbotsford with Meadow Ridge Gold picking up an 8-6 win on the road.

SIFC

The playoffs are underway in the Pee Wee and Junior Bantam divisions, respectively, in the SIFC.

This weekend’s Pee Wee schedule will feature the Vernon Yellowjackets hosting the Salmon Arm Colts and the Kamloops hosting the Kelowna Dragons.

The Junior Bantam schedule will see the Vernon Marauders hosting the Kamloops Broncos and the Kelowna Dragons hosting the Salmon Arm Broncos.

BC High School Football

It’s the final weekend of regular season action in the BCSSFA and this week’s featured game will be a huge rivalry match with last year’s defending AAA champion Vancouver College Fighting Irish hosting the Notre Dame Jugglers in the annual Archbishops’ Trophy game this Friday, November 4. Kickoff is at 2 pm at O’Hagan Field at Vancouver College. Please note there is no Internet broadcast coverage of this game.

The Irish have won the last seven straight games in the series and an eighth straight win on Saturday would give them the West conference title this year as well.

Both teams are coming off huge victories last week with the Irish pummeling the Carson Graham Eagles by a 54-27 while the Jugglers knocked off the West Vancouver Highlanders by a 27-3 score.

*Please note that this week’s broadcast game of the week will feature the Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers facing the St. Thomas More Knights on Friday night at 7 pm. The game can be seen on sportscanada.tv.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
