Congratulations are in order for Coach Mike and Doug Pauls and the Westside Packers who were crowned British Columbia provincial under-18 flag champions for the 2011 season at the tournament held at Vancouver College this past Sunday.

The Packers will be going to represent our province at the Football Canada National 5-on-5 flag tournament at Dalhousie University in Halifax from June 22 – 25, 2011.

Looking to join the Packers in Halifax will be the U-16 provincial champions which will be made known at this weekend’s (June 11-12) provincial flag tournament at the Capital News Centre in Kelowna, BC. Also to be decided at the Kelowna tournament will be the provincial champions at the U-12 and U-14 age categories.

Here is a brief event wrap-up from BCCFA Spring Flag Football Coordinator Doug Pauls:

The fast-pace 5-on-5 style of flag football was at its best on a sunny day at the BCCFA provincial tournament. Many close, action-packed games were on display. Speed of play, accurate passing and athletic catching were the norm.

The semi-final game between the Coquitlam and the Vancouver Westside Falcons featured a triple overtime β€˜Texas shoot out’ tie breaker to determine the winner. Every player involved in the league saw an improvement in their individual and team football skills.
