BCFC Game of the Week (5): Could turnovers determine game winner?

The Game of the Week in the BCFC will feature the Westshore Rebels (0-4) visiting the Valley Huskers (2-1-1) as the lone game in the Conference this weekend.

The Huskers are coming off loss in Nanaimo in which they didnā€™t score a touchdown and their defense would give up 56 points.

Quarterback Cody Parray has completed 47 of 95 for 537 yards and has thrown three majors.Ā  He has rushed 19 times for 88 yards.

Two receivers have done most of the damage for the Huskers as Dylan Boykowich has caught 11 passes for 213 yards and all three of Parrayā€™s touchdown passes.Ā  Josh Hayden has a team high 14 receptions for 196 yards.

On the ground the bulk of the carries have been handed to Ty Derayos who has rushed 46 times for 218 yards and a major.

The Huskers kicking game has been excellent as Dan Erickson is 10 of 13 in field goal tries, including a 45 yarder.Ā  Erickson has twice been named the BCFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

The Rebels will pose a tough test for the Huskers defense who are led by Branden Vickers.Ā  The linebacker has 16 tackles, four assists and two fumble recoveries.Ā  Brody Slagman will also have to have a big game.Ā  He has 12 tackles, one sack and one fumble recovery.

The Westshore Rebels like the Huskers have had their offensive troubles, scoring just 66 points through the first four games.

Hunter Lake has been the third quarterback the Rebels have used this season and has shown spots of brilliance.Ā  He is 39 of 65 for 600 yards and has thrown three touchdown passes.Ā  His favourite target has been Eric Eggleston who has 15 catches for 264 yards and two majors.Ā  Sean Shepherd has caught 13 balls for 171 yards.

Lake also leads the club with 166 rushing yards on 17 carries while Emanuel Juma has carried the rock 36 times for 152 yards and two touchdowns.

This game could come down to turnovers.Ā  The Rebels are a league worst minus 11, while the Huskers are a minus six.

Defensively the Rebels will look to Chris Pastro who leads the club with nine tackles, five special teams tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and an interception.Ā  Tanner Rodinsky will also need to play an important role with his nine tackles and three sacks.

Kickoff on Saturday is scheduled for 2:00pm at Townsend Park in Chlliwack.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
