BCFC Game of the Week (8): Will turnovers decide rematch?

The Game of the Week in the BCFC will see a rematch of Week 3 between the visiting Langley Rams (5-1) and the host Vancouver Island Raiders (4-2).

These two teams have seemingly become the hottest rivalry in the BC Conference.

In the last two meetings at Caledonia Park in Nanaimo the visiting Rams have left with a victory including a 36-28 win in Week 3.

In that game despite being outgained offensively the Rams saw five touchdowns from quarterback Jahlani Gilbert-Knorren.  The former U of S Huskie would rush for three majors on 13 carries and throw for two more completing 16 of 25 for 274 yards.

Receiver Malcolm Williams led the Rams with seven catches for 149 yards and a major.

The Raiders offensive side of the ball would gain 495 yards, including a huge game from receiver Whitman Tomusiak who made 11 catches for 225 yards and two touchdowns.

Raiders’ quarterback Jamie Ybarra would show flashes of brilliance finishing 11 of 20 for 233 yards and two touchdowns.

Judging just on stats, prior to last weekend the stronger running game looked to be in favor of the Raiders, however the Rams would change that.  Last weekend the Rams would rush for 352 yards led by Kyle Albertini rumbling 215 yards, while Nathan Lund tallied 122 yards.  The leading rusher for the Raiders is Michael Ritchott who has compiled 344 yards.

This game should come down to turnovers, the team that turns it over less has a very good chance of winning. In Week 3 the Rams defense would force four turnovers, compared to the Raiders recording two takeaways.   The Rams “D” would also compile three sacks.

All that being said, both teams have changed personnel and have had injuries so what happened in the past should have no bearing on Week 8.

The weather in Nanaimo is calling for sunshine and 29 degrees….a perfect day for a shootout!

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
