BCFC launches online streaming of 18 regular season games plus playoffs

The British Columbia Football Conference is pleased to announce that 18 of the 30 regular season games, plus playoffs, will be web cast on the new BCFC TV.

The BCFC have partnered with PlayFullScreen.com to bring the games involving the Okanagan Sun and Vancouver Island Raiders. This new system will be accessible through the BCFC website as well as the sites of all BCFC teams.

The first game broadcasted on BCFC TV will be the Okanagan Sun visiting the Kamloops Broncos at Hillside Stadium on Sunday July 31 at 5:00pm PT.

This concept was spearheaded by Okanagan Sun President Bill Long.

“At the 2010 Canadian Bowl meetings, I sat with the representatives of the Langley Rams, Westshore Rebels and Chilliwack Huskers and the idea of a common platform to broadcast games came up. We had just been sitting through CJFL meetings where they were lamenting the inability to get our games, highlights, or even scores on any of the major sports networks. I felt that there was another viable option…the Internet. With the vastly improved streaming technology, and the significant increase in capacity of the average home computer…the Internet offers us the ability to get our product out to football fans at an extremely affordable price. The cost to broadcast a game via television is astronomical and prohibitive unless you have a major corporate sponsor”

BCFC TV will be a free service to all viewers. It is hoped that through the extensive advertising opportunities in the webcasts that BCFC TV will ultimately generate revenue for the league and the individual teams.

“We initially wanted to broadcast all the games, but the added expense of creating a 3rd Broadcast crew was a little too ambitious in the first year. The Okanagan Sun & VI Raiders have existing broadcast personnel, so this will be a good way to get the system launched. Every team will have at least 4 of their games their fans can watch.”

“The beauty of the Internet is that we have no limit on where we can reach. Over 40% of the players in the BCFC come from outside BC. Now their family and friends can watch them play. Ultimately this will increase the profile in our Conference, and probably mean more players will consider playing here.”

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
