BCFC: Okanagan Sun fire offensive coordinator after loss to Vancouver Island

The Okanagan Sun relieved Offensive Coordinator Tony Lindsay of his duties, a position he was promoted to at the start of the 2009 season. Lindsay coached with the team the past 13 years.

After losing to the Vancouver Island Raiders and being outscored 19-3 in the second half, first-year head coach Jason Casey chose to make the change.

Former head coach and ex-player Jay Christensen has taken over as the offensive coordinator.

Christensen starred for the Sun as a receiver in the early 1980s. He joined the coaching staff as the offensive coordinator in 1999, before moving into the head coach’s job in 2002. He spent seven seasons at the helm, before stepping down in 2008.

Head Coach Jason Casey (former Concordia Stinger) told the Kelowna Capital News a more diversified and potent offense.

“”You have to be able to run the football to be a contender,” he said. “The Raiders ran and passed on us, and we didn’t respond.”

The Sun returns to action Saturday, Sept. 11 at home to the Chilliwack Huskers.
