BCFC Players of the Week – Week 2: English, Bates, Weber

The British Columbia Football Conference is pleased to announce the ”Players of the Week” for Week Three of the 2011 Season.

It was a week that saw a number of terrific individual efforts. However the BCFC Offensive Player of the Week is Langley Rams receiver Dan English. The New Westminster native was a serious threat catching a game high seven passes for 134 yards and had a touchdown. His 53 yard reception was instrumental in a Rams major. An honourable mention goes to
Raiders quarterback Jordan Yantz who set a new BCFC record for touchdown passes, connecting on the 63rd of his career.

Like the offensive side, the defensive side of the ball also had a number of terrific individual performances. For the second consecutive week the Defensive Player of the Week is a member of the Chilliwack Huskers. Defensive back Jayson Bates had a wonderful game and kept the Huskers close with two interceptions, two solo tackles, one assist, one special teams
tackle and one ball batted down. Bates is in his fourth year with the Huskers organization.
For the first time this season the 3-0 Okanagan Sun receive a weekly award.

The Special Teams Player of the Week is returner DJ Weber. At just 5’7, 180 pounds the shifty Kelowna native had seven punt returns for 39 yards, four kick-off returns for 96 yards and a missed field goal return for 24 yards. The missed field goal return came in a one point game, if
Weber doesn’t return the miss the Rams and Sun would have been tied. All in all he would tally 159 return yards which would help give the Sun offense very good field position.

Week Four of the BCFC season has a full slate of games. Saturday night the 3-0 Okanagan Sun will host the 2-1 Westshore Rebels at the Apple Bowl at 7:00pm. At the same time in Kamloops the 1-2 Broncos will host the 0-3 Langley Rams at Hillside Stadium. Sunday afternoon at 2:00pm the 0-3 Chilliwack Huskers will host the 3-0 Vancouver Island Raiders at Exhibition Stadium.
