BCFC: Players of week 5 – Morris, Hansen, Van Gylswyck

The British Columbia Football Conference is pleased to announce the ”Players of the Week” for Week Five of the 2011 Season. For the first time in 2011 one team has swept all three categories…”Rebels Rule.”

Each game, teams in the BCFC like to use the run game to open up the pass game…in Westshore on Saturday afternoon, the Rebels had no reason to use the pass game. The ground assault would compile 423 yards on the day, led by the Offensive Player of the Week, running back Greg Morris. The Toronto product would total 259 yards on 13 carries and score four touchdowns. He would add a reception for nine yards. The 18-year old would score from 100, 63, 32 and 28 yards out leading the Rebels to their third win of the year. His 259 yards set a new Rebels record and is 11th best in BCFC history.

It took until Week 5 of the schedule before the league records its shutout as the Rebels defence blanked the Broncos 47-0. The Rebels β€œD” was solid, but one player stood out from the others as defensive back Michael Hansen is the Defensive Player of the Week. Hansen compiled three solo tackles and was a ball hawk, intercepting two passes for a total of 14 defensive points. Hansen is the first Rebels defender to win this award in 2011.

For the second time this season Rebel kicker Quinn Van Gylswyck is the BCFC Special Teams Player of the Week. He would add to the Rebels scoring on Saturday afternoon with 15 points, hitting all three field goals (17, 36 and 40 yards out), was perfect on five converts and had a single. His kicking would pin the Broncos deep all afternoon with four punts totalling 228 yards, an average of 57 yards including a booming 75 yarder. His five kick-offs would total 313 yards, an average of 63 yards.

The BCFC enters the Labour Day bye week with the first half in the books. After the long weekend Week 6 will see all six teams in action with the β€œBattle on the Island” part two features the 3-2 Rebels in Nanaimo to face the 5-0 Raiders. Also on Saturday the 1-4 Kamloops Broncos travel to Langley to visit the 2-3 Rams. Then on Sunday September 11, the 4-1 Okanagan Sun host the 0-5 Chilliwack Huskers.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
