BCFC: Rebels get first win of season

The lone game in the BCFC during the Labour Day Long weekend turned into an offensive shootout as the Westshore Rebels recorded their first win of the season, a 40-33 victory over the Valley Huskers.

Both clubs combined for 897 total offensive yards and 73 points.

Rebels quarterback Hunter Lake had his best game of the year finishing 18 of 28 for 317 yards and threw five TD passes.  He would find both Josh Beauchamp and Eric Eggleston for two touchdowns each and find Emanuel Juma for another major.  Sam Shepherd would make a game high six catches for 90 yards.

The Rebels game plan was to throw the ball, but Juma did lead the club on the ground with 13 carries for 83 yards.

Defensively the Rebels would collect four turnovers as Braden Watez intercepted two passes while Brandon Dugaro picked off one. Joey Cavilla recovered a fumble for a team that was led by Carlos Cerrato-Hiebert and his five stops.

The Rebels (1-4) will travel to Langley on Saturday to face the Rams (4-1) for the third time this season.

The Valley Huskers would record 412 yards offensively and were led by quarterback Cody Parray who would account for four touchdowns.

Parray would rush four times and scored two touchdowns, while finishing 13 of 29 for 278 yards through the air. He would also throw two touchdowns and three interceptions.  His favourite target was Cody Vinnish would make five catches for a game high 181 yards and a touchdown.  Dylan Boykowich would also catch a touchdown pass.

Ty Derayos carried 19 times for 84 yards to lead the ground attack.

The Huskers defense was busy as Hayden Jeffries would lead the team with seven solo tackles and a knockdown.  Branden Vickers had six stops while Michael Adetola chipped in with five tackles.

On Saturday the Huskers (2-2-1) will host the Kamloops Broncos (0-4-1) at 1:00pm at Townsend Park.

This coming weekend BCFC teams will join the rest of the Canadian Junior Football League clubs to celebrate the “CJFL Minor Football Week”
