BCFC – semi-final players of week: Botel, Doege, Mueller

The British Columbia Football Conference is pleased to announce the “Players of the Week” for the 2010 Semi-Finals.

On Saturday afternoon the Vancouver Island Raiders punched their ticket to the Cullen Cup final in a rain drenched game. As the conditions at Caledonia Park worsen the Raiders run game took over, led by BCFC Offensive Player of the Week Jordan Botel. The BCFC rushing leader carried 17 times for 125 yards and scored two touchdowns. This is the second time Botel has won the award.

The Okanagan Sun also punched their ticket the Cullen Cup final on Thanksgiving weekend. Sunday afternoon the Sun defence bent but didn’t break, led by team MVP and BCFC Defensive Player of the Week Steven Doege. The Kelowna native made three solo tackles, one assist, one special teams tackle, he blocked a convert and forced and recovered a fumble. It’s the second time this season Doege has one this award.

The BCFC Special Teams Player of the Week is Vancouver Island Raiders kicker Mark Mueller. He would be instrumental in the Raiders victory going 3-3 in field goals hitting from 24, 25 and 36 yards out. Plus was 5-5 in converts in the pouring rain. He would punt six times for 217 yards and record six kick-offs for 328 yards. It’s the second time Mueller has won this award this season.

The 2010 Cullen Cup final is set for Sunday afternoon at the Apple Bowl as the #1 Okanagan Sun host the #2 Vancouver Island Raiders. Both teams finished the season 9-1 and beat each other at home.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
