BCFC – Week 6 in review


During Week 6 of the BCFC season all three games were lop sided scores as the winners outscored their opponents 163-28.

The β€œgame of the week” between the Rams and the Raiders turned out to be a sleeper as the Raiders prevailed 40-8 to move to 5-1. The reigning the offensive player of week Jordan Yantz finished 19 of 30 for 364 yards, threw four touchdowns and three interceptions. Yantz found four different receivers for majors including Andrew Smith, Michael Schaper, Rob Gallaugher and Whitman Tomusiak. Schaper caught six balls for 155 yards, while Smith also hauled in
six passes for 136 yards.
On the ground Jordan Botel led the Raiders with 15 carries for 104 yards and found the end zone. Yantz carried five times for 35 yards.
The defence held the Rams big play offense to 218 yards and just 71 through the air. Prashant Chaube, Termaine Appeley and Ranji Atwall picked off passes while Andreas Iwanegbe recovered a fumble. Aaron Davies recorded four tackles.
With the loss the South Surrey Rams fell to 3-3 on the season as two quarterbacks completed just five passes. Nathaniel White was three of 15 for 49 yards and threw two picks, while Taylor Potkins was two of eight for 22 yards and an interception. It was Potkins first game back as a Ram since leaving the Okanagan Sun.
Sam O’Neill led the Rams running attack with six carries for 55 yards while White scampered 60 yards on one carry. The bulk of the Rams scoring came from kicker Nick Boyd who was two of three as he hit from 26 and 27 yards away, while the defence recorded a safety.
The Rams defence forced three interceptions as Nick Felicella, Michael Mawusi and Belah Small picked off his league leading sixth pass. Kyle Ouwehand recorded six solo tackles, two assists, two special teams tackles and a sack.
Following the bye week the Raiders will host the Rebels while the Rams play in Kamloops.

The Okanagan Sun matched the Raiders and won their fifth game of the year in a 53-7 victory over Kamloops and jump to 5-1. On the opening kick-off rookie Robbie Yochim raced 95 yards for a touchdown and the Sun never looked back. Quarterback Bobby Davis was nine of 23 for 160 yards a touchdown and ran for two scores. Dan Turek caught the only touchdown pass catching four in total for 86 yards. Matt Scheurwater and Mike Friend both caught two balls.
On the ground the Sun totalled 193 yards as Davis ran seven times for 67 yards and Arman Bokitch also carried seven times for 65 yards and a touchdown.
The Sun Special Teams played an impact as kicker Steve Shott hit five field goals from 16, 24, 27, 30 and 45 yards. The punt/kick-off returners tallied 237 yards and a touchdown.
The defence set a new team record with eight sacks as Steven Doege recorded three, Derek Hurlock had two, Devon Tibbets, Mitchell Wolsey and Alex Law all had one. The β€œD” also had six takeaways as Hayden Bell picked off two passes and Aaron Goddard had one and a fumble recovery. Ryan Keating and Daylon Pommier also recovered a fumble.
The Kamloops Broncos have lost two in a row and fell to 2-4 recording just 176 yards. Three quarterbacks finished 11 of 26 for 149 yards but didn’t find the end zone. Adam Nesbitt caught three balls for 70 yards.
On the ground the Broncos were led by Dave Boulton who carried seven times for 51 yards and Josh Adams totalled 17 yards on two carries.
The only points the Broncos would tally came courtesy of a pick six by Kyle Armstrong who would return it 15 yards. Grady Chalmers also picked off a pass and Mitch Day recovered a fumble, had five tackles and a sack. Mark Gratton had four solo tackles and an assists.
After the bye the Sun will host Chilliwack, while the Broncos will host the Rams.

In Victoria the Rebels recorded the single biggest output of the season beating Chilliwack 70-13. The Rebel offense compiled 644 yards, 253 of which was on the ground. Quarterback Nick Cobb was 12 of 24 for 304 yards and had three touchdowns. Travis Corazza had two catches for 98 yards including a 71 yard bomb for a touchdown while Kyle Pich and Dallas Holyk also had touchdown catches.
Sam Adu added to his league leading rush total as he carried 15 times for 239 yards and
four touchdowns. His 239 yards set a new team record and four majors tied a club record. Cobb and Jesse Fitch also ran for scores.
Quinn Van Gylswyk hit two long field goals from 37 and 44 yards. He was also 8-8 in
converts.
Taylor Gudgeon led the defence with four tackles and had one of the team’s two blocks. Mike Barry had the only takeaway as he recovered a fumble. Adam Grilj had a sack.
After the blow-out loss the Chilliwack Huskers fall to 0-6.

The biggest bright spot was returner Ben Skerrett (Picture). He set a new BCFC career record for kick-off returns. His 11 returns against the Rebels gives him 74 for his career with four games remaining. During the game on Saturday he tallied 268 yards which also set a new BCFC single game record for return yards breaking his own mark of 223 yards. Starter Cory Prince finished nine of 23 for 68 yards, while back-up Adann Hendrickson was five of seven for 92 yards
and a touchdown. Jeff Wandzura caught five passes for 36 yards and a touchdown, while Skerrett made one catch for 43 yards and would rush for 37 yards and tallied the only other touchdown.
The Huskers were led by Curtis Schindel who made four tackles and Dan Harder intercepted a pass. Mike Decloedt. Following the bye the Rebels will travel to Nanaimo while the Huskers will travel to Kelowna.
