BCFC – Week 7 players of the week

The British Columbia Football Conference is pleased to announce the “Players of the Week” for Week Seven of the 2010 Season. For the first time this year, all three winners are from the same team.

The Kamloops Broncos won the biggest game in franchise history this past weekend beating the South Surrey Rams. In extremely windy conditions the Broncos used the ground attack very successfully. They were led by the BCFC Offensive Player of the Week, running back Spencer Martin. He would carry the ball 18 times for 71 yards and would score the only touchdown of the game as the Broncos won their third of the year 13-5.

Allowing just five points to an offensively gifted Rams team is impressive. But when the defence didn’t allow any, you realize just how impressive this win for the Broncos was. The Broncos were led by the BCFC Defensive Player of the Week, linebacker Mitch Day. He had four solo tackles, five assists and two forced fumbles. This is the third time in seven weeks that a Bronco has won this award.

Seven of the Broncos 13 points on Saturday night were recorded by the BCFC Special Teams Player of the Week, kicker Aaron Smit. In the windy conditions at Hillside Stadium, Smit was 2-2 in field goals, hitting from 19 and 35 yards out and drilled his only covert. He tallied 150 yards on six punts and had four kicks offs that traveled 223 yards. It’s the second time Smit has won the weekly award, as he won in Week 4.

Week 8 in the BCFC has a full slate of games, with two on Saturday and one on Sunday.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
