BCFC Week Nine Summary

Week 9 in the British Columbia Football Conference saw three lopsided scores as the Raiders, Sun and Rebels all won. Game one last weekend saw the Vancouver Raiders remain perfect with a 56-19 win over the visiting Langley Rams. After the first half the Raiders held a 21-13 lead before exploding for 28 points in the second half to jump to 9-0.

Quarterback Jordan Yantz once again led the charge setting a new Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL) record in the process. He would throw four more touchdown passes to set the record with 85 in his four year career.

Saturday he finished 12 of 19 for 244 yards spreading the ball around to four different receivers. Dustin Pederson caught three passes for 76 yards and two touchdowns, Andrew Smith made four receptions for 33 yards and a score, while Whitman Tomusiak also found the end zone.

On the ground Jordan Botel carried 13 times for 128 yards and scored two touchdowns. Ashton Galloway also found pay dirt on three carries. The Raiders defence showed why they lead the conference in takeaways, creating six Ram turnovers. Adam Laurensse had two interceptions while Termaine Apperley had one. Evan Foster, Glenn Boyce and Cole Bishop all recovered fumbles.

Skylor Letcher had four tackles, two knockdowns and a forced fumble.

The Raiders go to 9-0 and will travel to face the 8-1 Okanagan Sun on Thanksgiving Sunday in a first place showdown.

The Langley Rams fall for the second consecutive week and fall to fourth place in the conference managing just 65 yards on the ground. Kyle Albertini rushed 10 times for 50 for those 65 yards.

Quarterback Brandon Leyh didn’t play so back-up Jon Roney took the helm and finished 12 of 25 for 163 yards and threw two touchdowns. Nick Downey would catch both touchdown passes and now leads the conference with 15 TDs. Downey would make five catches for 128 yards.

Kicker Nick Naylor was two of three in field goals hitting from 29 and 35 yards out. The Rams defence would create four Raider turnovers including fumble recoveries by Carlo Graziano, Arie Nakagawa and Jas Dhilon while Nick Felicella intercepted a pass.

Spensor Farbatuk would set a new CJFL record with his 17th solo special teams tackle. The Rams sit 4-5 and will travel to Westshore for a rematch with the Rebels in a third place showdown on Saturday afternoon.

Also on Saturday afternoon the Okanagan Sun raised their record to 8-1 after a 48-21 win over the Chilliwack Huskers.

The Sun would post 550 yards of total offence led by QB Jeremy Mraovic who finished 14 of 28 for 304 yards and three touchdowns. His favourite target would be Tommy Howes who made six catches for 81 yards and a touchdown. Dan Turek had just two catches for a game high 108 yards and a score, while Arman Bokitch caught one ball for a touchdown.

Bokitch would be the offensive player of the game also carrying 18 times for 132 yards and two majors on the ground. Evin Polack had eight carries for 44 yards and a touchdown.

For the first time in 23 quarters the Sun defence finally surrender an offensive point to the Huskers. They would also create four turnovers as Matt Walker made his first interception and Wes Geisler, Brandon Donkers and Carsen Park all recovered fumbles. Former Husker Sam
Looysen and Steven Doege had a sack while Wyatt Smith led the club with five tackles.

The Sun will host the 9-0 Raiders on Sunday afternoon at the Apple Bowl.

The 0-9 Huskers put up a great fight against the Sun despite significant injuries. Quarterback Adann Henderickson finished 17 of 40 for 185 yards and a touchdown pass to Cody Parray. Henderickson would run seven times for 94 yards.

Peter Johns made two catches for 41 yards while Ben Skerrett had four receptions for 37 yards.
Defensively the Huskers saw a terrific game from Tanner Hamade returning two interceptions for touchdowns, both of 55 yards. Curtis Schindel made eight tackles and had a knockdown while veteran Jayson Bates made six tackles.

The Huskers will close out their 2011 season in Kamloops on Saturday night against the 1-8 Broncos.

In Kamloops on Saturday night the visiting Westshore Rebels won their second straight and fifth of the year with a 43-30 victory over the Broncos.

The Rebels would use their potent run attack gaining 269 yards on the ground. The reining offensive player of the week running back Greg Morris once again led the way with 12 carries for 110 yards and two touchdowns. Niles Goguen proved to be a lethal 1-2 punch carrying the rock six times for 75 yards and two majors.

160 yards of the Rebels 416 yards of total offense came through the air. Starting quarterback Cat Todorovich was six of 12 for 128 yards while back-up Mark Black was two of three and had a touchdown pass to Vinnie Cannata. The receiver would make three catches for a game high 71 yards.

Defensively the Rebels were led by Samuel Narkaj who had six tackles and a sack while Michael Hansen had a pick. Justin Perrie would also had a sack while 10 Rebels had multi-tackle games.
The 5-4 Rebels will host the 4-5 Rams on Saturday afternoon in a battle for third place.

The Broncos kept things close with 294 yards of total offense. Quarterback Jesse Neufeld finished nine of 24 for 121 yards and a 25 yard touchdown strike to Nick Bogert. Don Calvert made four catches for 51 yards while Brennan Plante caught three balls for 46 yards.

On the ground the Broncos were led by Joel Mukendi who carried 12 times for 105 yards and Mike McMaster carried 11 times for 60 yards and had a touchdown.

Kicker Mark Discombe had his best day hitting on all three field goal attempts. He would hit from 15, 17 and 30 yards out. The Broncos β€œD” would do their part forcing four turnovers including a fumble recovery for a touchdown by Brandon Sayer. Wes Black and Craig Laturnas would also recover fumbles and Shayne Arthurs picked off a pass. Drew Markortoff had four tackles, a knockdown and a forced fumble.

The Broncos fall to 1-8 on the year and will host the 0-9 Huskers to conclude their season.
