Beamsville recruit ‘can make a difference’ at York

Austin Whetton has chosen the team he felt the strongest bond with throughout the recruitment process.

Recently, the 5’11, 210 pound running back from Beamsville, Ontario signed with York Lions.  Whetton will join the team for the 2015 OUA season.

“There are several reasons I chose York,” elaborated Whetton.  “It’s a way from home but not too far.”

“The coaching staff kept in touch with me on numerous occasions. On my visit to York, the coaching staff was awesome made me feel a part of the team right away. I felt an instant connection. Our academic coach made me feel very much at ease knowing our academics will be very much structured. I definitely feel I can make a difference in the York football program and am so looking forward to the challenge.”

Among the teams the running back has played for include Blessed Trinity Thunder of the Niagara Region High School Athletic Association (NRHSAA) and Niagara Spears of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL). During his career, Whetton has won numerous MVP honours as well as All-Star selections.
