Bears are backβ€” looking for some bite!

Brampton Bears are back!
Having returned to compete in the Ontario Football Conference (OFC) of the Canadian Junior Football League in the 2010 season, the Bears are hoping for bigger and better results in their second campaign.

After going winless in their return to the OFC last fall, the Bears, currently led by president Ian Smith and head coach Mark Houlder, are looking forward to their inaugural win early in the 2011 season.
Last year’s Bears came from Brampton, Mississauga and from as far away as Bancroft, because they saw the value of playing on a junior team in the OFC.
Despite the limited roster of 28 players, the Bears became formidable competition against teams that were established in the league.
Players rotated through multiple positions and yet had a great year.
Coach Houlder is hoping his young team will grow even stronger for the coming season as there has been much interest from the football community.
Houlder is positive that the team will be more productive on the field as the returning players are now aware of what it takes to play at a junior level.
Additionally, Houlder feels confident and looks forward to the challenge of being in the 2011 playoffs.
Not only will this season’s championship game be held in Ontario, partnering with Rogers Cable will bring nationally televised games.
The team welcomes additional board members, coaches Mike Vincent, Michael Lepore, Paul Bills and Sim Kooner and sponsors.
Their new stadium at Chinguacousy Park will seat 2,000 fans.
While the Bears have a few new recruits lined up, the are looking for players between the ages of 17 and 22 who are looking for an opportunity to improve their football skills and advance to the next level.
The Bears will be holding a Free Agent Tryout Camp on consecutive Tuesdays. The camp. which started this week, also runs from 8 to 11:45 p.m. on April 19 and April 26. The cost is $20.
The Bears will play their first game at TD Waterhouse Stadium in London on Saturday, August 27 at 7 p.m. with their home opener at the brand new Chinguacousy Stadium on September 3.
Numerous corporate sponsorship opportunities have been created to correspond to all levels of business. The team welcomes assistance from volunteersβ€” for the season or on a game-by-game basis.
As declared in their mission statement: β€œThe Brampton Football mission is to educate and introduce young men to the personal and community-wide benefits associated with teamwork, discipline, respect and sacrifice.”
