Some people may not know, but Canada has a love for NFL. They have had some really good players throughout their history. Known to be the legends of Canadian Football, these players have scored unforgettable points, have defended hard and showed a passion for the game. Below is the journey of 3 of the best Canadian players of all time.

Doug Flutie

The 5-foot 10-inch player has done everything to reach his goals. And he succeeded! His height didn’t matter, although in some cases, this prevented him in getting accepted into the National Football League qualifications. In 1984, he won the Heisman Trophy as the best player in college football. Flutie had a 21-year professional football career both in Canada and in the United States. He made All-America honours with 3,454 passing yards, 70 rushing touchdowns and 270 passing touchdowns. After his retirement, he became a television football analyst and in 2007, he was officially accepted in the College Football Hall of Fame.

In the NFL, Flutie spent 12 seasons with the Buffalo Bills, Chicago Bears, New England Patriots, and San Diego Chargers. In 1984, his Hail Mary pass against Miami while playing for Boston College made him a legend.

Russ Jackson

Also known as Russell Jackson, he spent his entire 12 years in the Canadian football as the professional football player for Ottawa Rough Riders. He was famous for his 1,356 passes for 24,592 yards and 185 touchdowns. He was the first double winner of Outstanding Player Awards and collected the Schenley Outstanding Canadian award. His name even appears in the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame and Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame. He was a 4 times winner in the Grey Cup Participation, 5 times winner of All-Eastern Quarterback, 4 times winner for Grey Cup Participation, 2 times Jeff Russel Memorial Trophy, and 3 times Schenley Award for Most Outstanding Player.

His last campaign was in 1969, in the Grey Cup game Jackson threw four touchdown passes and made records in the CFL championship game. In an interview he spoke about his favourite team:

“We have tickets to the Tiger-Cats games in Hamilton, and we go to most of those games, but all the fans around us know I’m an Ottawa fan,” I’m not cheering for the Tiger-Cats, I’m cheering for Ottawa. We have to go through that all the time, especially when Ottawa’s in town playing the Tiger-Cats.”

Rocky Dipietro

Rocky DiPietro had a 14-year career as a Hamilton Tiger-Cat receiver. He is known as a true legend in the Canadian Football League. With career stats of 45 touchdowns and 706 receptions for 9,762 yards. This has made Rocky fans all over the world. In 1986, he played four Grey Cup games. And has been a two time All – Canadian Player. He won several league titles and other honours. He won the All-Eastern Slotback four times and the Grey Cup Participation four times. In 1994, he was also entered the Tiger-Cats in the Walk of Fame. Dipietro was one of the best slotbacks in CFL history. The former is now a High School educator and a coach.
