CEGEP linebacker decommits from OUA school, joins Red Resurgence

Ricardo Lubin was faced with a dilemma.

The 5’11, 215 pound linebacker (outside) from Laval, Quebec previously signed with the Ottawa Gee-Gees for the 2014 season. However, he faced some challenges that could not be overcome.

As a result, Lubin has opted to commit to the McGill Redmen.

β€œI didn’t regret signing to the Ottawa Gee-Gees to play CIS football, but I had academic and financial issues that I thought would get in the way,” explained Lubin.Β  β€œSo I decided to stay in Montreal to study and play football at McGill University.”

The strength of the football program, the addition of new Defensive Coordinator Ron Hilaire and the possible reunion of former teammates was too good of an offer for the Quebec linebacker to pass up.

β€œI chose Redmen football because I felt like it was an uprising program that can become a serious contender in the RSEQ,” said Lubin.Β  β€œThe addition of Ron Hilaire on the coaching staff was also a strong part on my decision because I was aware of his work at the University of Montreal and the work he did for the Team Canada’s junior squad.”

β€œI feel that with Ron and the strong staff they have can help me become a better football player and a better student of the game.Β  Also, I felt like reuniting with my teammates Khadim Mbaye, Loic Kayembe, Daves Dufresne, Ousmane Guindo and Jethro Sainvry. With these guys being a part of the grind with me, I believe I will have the best four years of my life.”

Lubin completed a stint with CEGEP Division 1 team, Montmorency Nomades.Β  Previous to the Nomades, the linebacker suited up for the Laval Bulldogs.
