It’s been a busy start to the year, and a very successful one as well. We are 3-0 and have put up some great numbers the first three games, yet myself, the coaches, and the players still expect more. Our first year head coach has done an amazing job preparing us for the types of different situations we would face this year. I think the major difference in our team compared to previous years is the resiliance that we have developed. We have learned that things will go wrong, situations will sometimes not turn out the way you first pictured them, but it is how you respond to those adverse situations that makes the difference in the result. (Speaking of having resiliance- JC Collin keep working, you’ll be back). Our team’s character (as well as Gillys) and ability to overcome was tested our first game when our extremely talented starting tailback Brendan Gillanders broke his tibia on his first carry of the game. Last year we had the two most talentend and promising pair of rookies I have ever seen, and are now left with both of them unable to play this season. No doubt that was a huge blow to our offense. But this gives a chance for our other younger and less experienced tailbacks to step up, and so far they have done a pretty good job.
Heading into the western game in week 2 our guys were pretty pumped up. This is the third year in a row that us or Western has opened their home game with one another, no doubt a little rivalry is growing. Our offence struggled, and our defense played great. It took 3 quarters for us to finally establish ourselves on offense and after overcoming 2 poor decisions on my part, the last half of the fourth quarter was one I will never forget. With 4 minutes left and down by 2 scores, a situation in which every quarterback dreams of (to lead a last minute drive at home against your rival) was in place. ENTER Ottawa U receiving core. You always here the qb’s name “leading” the last minute drive, but I will say that our receivers were the ones leading this one. Particulary Matt Bolduc, on a 3rd and 4 situation, made an unbelievable catch to keep the drive alive. Check it out
and watch the last minutes to see the catch. Or check out the photo, last page(page 7) 2nd row.. first column. Just look for the guy flying through the air and twisting around to keep us alive.

The drive finished off with Steve Hughes running a great route and catching the game winning touchdown. Western always plays hard and Coach Marshall always have his guys ready to play, and the next time we meet the game will be just as tough and just as exciting.
We have Mac this weekend, and it will be a tough game. But our guys are tough, and they are ready to work. My expectations are high for myself as well as my team mates, and when the time comes I know they will respond.
