Bisons add Kelowna recruit (VIDEO)

Fresh after the end of the Christmas recruiting blackout, the Manitoba Bisons announce their latest commitment to the class of 2016, Kyle Patchell.
The 5’11”, 170# receiver was a two sport star in football and rugby at Kelowna Secondary School, and has played his entire junior career since then with the Okanagan Sun of the British Columbia Football Conference
Kyle was clear about his reasons for joining the Bisons, and the connection that exists between the two programs. “There’s been a longstanding connection with Manitoba and the Okanagan Sun. I have played with tons of guys from Manitoba over my career with the Sun. I also know quite a few guys that have gone on to play for the Bisons after playing for the Sun, including their starting QB Theo Deezar. So that was definitely a factor in my decision.”
Bison Head Coach Brian Dobie, long one of the premier CJFL recruiters in the country, understands the importance of this addition. “The Bisons have always had great success with junior receivers, with Dustin Pedersen and Andrew Smith as two recent examples. We expect that Kyle will continue that legacy”
Bison receiver coach Blair Atkinson found himself focusing on Kyle’s specific skillset. “Kyle will add a veteran presence to our core of young receivers. He is a polished receiver who can find the hole across the middle and make tough contested catches.”
Kyle also felt that the Bisons provided a unique opportunity for him as a player and a student. “I’ve watched quite a few of the Bisons’ games over the last couple of years and I really like the look of their team and especially the offense. I know that they are looking for a few receivers to come in and compete for a starting spot right away, which is something that I’m looking to do, and I’ve heard really good things about the coaches and the University as well.”
Bison recruiting co-ordinator Chris Clement commented on the natural fit, and how Kyle addresses Β a specific need for the Bisons. “Although we have excellent talent at receiver, our group as a whole is very young, and with the loss of three veteran starters it was very important to add a leadership presence. I hope to see Kyle bring that leadership both on and off the field.”
Kyle is the tenth recruit for the Bisons this year. He is the second receiver and the sixth BC product to join the program.
