The Manitoba Bisons are pleased to announce the addition of another recruit in the class of 2016, fullback Jake Patko of the Langley Rams.
The 6’3″, 247# Coquitlam product attended Terry Fox High School, where he was a BCHSFA All-Star, and has played the last five seasons with the Langley Rams, where he was named the Most Outstanding Back.
Bison Head Coach Brian Dobie looks forward to the new addition. “Jake’s arrival is very fortuitous, fullback is a major position of need right now and we expect him to slide right into that role. His special teams experience is absolutely an asset, he was a top special teams player in the BCFC and we hope his football acumen will translate just as well to the CIS.”
Bison OC Vaughan Mitchell sees a natural fit between Jake and the Bison offense. “This is an important addition for us as we had two five-year FBs graduate last year. Looking for Jake to come in and make an immediate impact in a position of need.”
Jake himself felt that the Bisons were a clear choice. “I chose the Bisons program because I feel they are the best fit for me developing as a student-athlete. The meetings I had with Coach Dobie were a hge factor in my decision as he explained to me the vision he had for the team going forward.” Jake was also excited about the team culture and staff. “This is a strong team with a great coaching staff that puts a lot of time into their athletes. I am looking forward to working with the guys and the coaches to earn my place on the team.. I’m honoured to be a Bison and represent the University of Manitoba.”
Chris Clement is both the Bison RB coach and the Recruiting Co-Ordinator, giving him two reasons to look forward to this addition. “Every team goes into the offseason needing some immediate solutions to urgent problems. This year for us we needed a fullback and a special teams leader, and we found just that in Jake Patko. His physical nature as a back will be a great complement to our running game.”
Jake is the thirteenth recruit for the Bisons. He is the first RB in the class of 2016, and the eighth BC product. Jake’s highlight tape can be seen atΒ http://www.hudl.com/athlete/4067464/highlights/313085391/v3
