Bisons land #CFC100 recruit

The University of Manitoba Bisons Football program is pleased to announce the additions of a recruiting commitment, quarterback Des Catellier from Calgary, Alberta.
Β
The 6’2″, 185 pound quarterback is #41 on the #CFC100, and most recently led the St. Francis Browns to both the Calgary city championship and the Alberta Tier I provincial championship in a come-from-behind victory over the Notre Dame Pride. He also played for the Lions of the Calgary Area Midget Football Association, and was both the quarterback and kicker for Team Alberta during the 2014 and 2015 Football Canada Cup tournaments. Des represented Canada on the international stage as the quarterback for the U-18 program.
Β
Bisons Recruiting Coordinator Chris Clement praised the new recruit’s versatility.
“Des is a consensus top QB in this year’s recruiting class, with the athleticism to play several other positions, but is also certainly one of the top punters in the country. He is undoubtedly one of the top players in the nation and we are thrilled to have him join our program.”

Manitoba Offensive Coordinator Vaughan Mitchell was similarly positive.
“Des is not only a great quarterback, he is a winner and a leader. I expect he will start making this program better the day he arrives on campus.”
Β
“I’m honoured that Des has chosen the UofM from so many great options to pursue his educational and athletic goals,” began Bison Head Coach Brian Dobie. “Des is a proven leader and winner, with a succession of accomplishments preceding his signing at Manitoba. Des led the Browns to the Alberta championship, on the #1 ranked team in the country. He was also the QB for Team Alberta, and now Team Canada. We look forward to Des becoming an important part of the offence with the University of Manitoba Bisons.”
Β
Des’ brother, Luc Catellier, is currently a defensive back with the Bisons, something that played into the younger Catellier’s decision.
“I chose to be a Bison because of the great coaching staff and great young players with the potential to win a Vanier Cup. I’m looking forward to being a part of the Bison culture and also being able to play with my brother for the first time.”
Catellier is the first Alberta player, and the second quarterback in the Bisons 2016 recruiting class.
