Bisons sign local recruit

The Manitoba Bisons announce a recruiting addition for the class of 2016, ATH (RB/DB) Somto Anyadike from Winnipeg’s Dakota Collegiate.
The 5’11”, 202# athlete is known for his versatility, and although he is currently projected as a runningback could also see himself playing in the secondary. He is the third player from Dakota to join the Bisons this season, a strong showing for one of the traditionally deep teams in the Winnipeg High School Football League.
“Somto has a great size and speed combination that give him the ability to help our team at several spots on the depth chart. ” explained Brian Dobie “He’s been one of the top backs in the province as well as one of its top DBs over the past two seasons, and it is very important to us to keep Winnipeg talent at home.”
Bisons Regional Scout Frank Principe was Somto’s main contact with the Bisons, and had the pleasure of seeing Somto in action on several occasions. “Somto was one of the most explosive players in the WHSFL. I’m excited to have him as a Bison not only got his playing ability but also for his attitude and work ethic. I have no doubt in my mind that Somto will develop in our program.”
Anyadike couldn’t deny the allure of the hometown team. “I chose to be a Bison because I felt the coaching staff and the players are what make the organization such a great program, not to mention the amazing environment of the stadium and locker room that comes with it, I also chose the U of M because it was home and the first CIS team to offer me a scholarship.”
Bisons Recruiting Co-Ordinator Chris Clement has always focused on athletes more than positions, a position he continues to hold. “A big part of recruiting is simply collecting talent. When you have top athletes you have flexibility with positions, and we feel that Somto is an example of a player who gives us that sort of flexibility.”
Somto is the first RB of the recruiting class for the Bisons. He is the eleventh recruit of the year and the seventh Manitoba player to join the program. Anyadike is also the first athlete to come in without a set position. His highlight video can be seen at http://www.hudl.com/athlete/3899626/highlights/306797469/v2
