Bisons welcome Massey Trojan to 2017 class

Another Vincent Massey Trojan is set to join Manitoba in September.

Tong King, an offensive tackle from Vincent Massey Colligate, is ready to become a better player under the tutelage of his new team, the University of Manitoba Bisons.

Hailing from Winnipeg, Manitoba, King will have the chance to play with his hometown team. “The university itself is close to where I live so transportation is not an issue,” he said. “I’m already familiar with the campus.”

He added that he also chose Manitoba because of the reputation of the football program. “I can see myself being given opportunities to play within the next few years,” he said.

Standing at 6’3, 270lbs, King has been in and around the game since he was six-years-old. Now, he will be looking to develop and mature as a player at the U Sports level. “I think the coaching staff is great and I hope to further improve my fundamentals and knowledge of the game with the help of this coaching staff,” he said.

King has only suited up for four teams in his career. He has played with the Fort Garry Lions (Manitoba Major Junior Football League), the Vincent Massey Trojans (Winnipeg High School Football League), and the under-eighteen editions of Team Manitoba Gold and Team Canada. In 2015, he won the Anavets Bowl and in 2016, he was an offensive line all-star.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
