Blake Heads Up List Of CFL Combine Prospects

Even those checking out NFL betting odds at BetUs should keep an eye on the CFL Combine, which takes place from March 4-6, because you could end up finding a very good player. Here are the top five prospects that will have the eyes of the CFL on them.

Philip Blake, Baylor, Offensive Lineman

Blake is from Toronto, and he played a year of junior college football at Tyler Junior before moving onto Baylor, where he still has a year of eligibility. Blake is a center, but he played his sophomore season at right tackle, so he is a versatile player who can move around.

Scott Mitchell, Rice, Offensive Lineman

Mitchell finished his career at Rice with a foot injury, but it shouldn’t hurt his standing with CFL teams. The left tackle isn’t a big guy, but he moves his feet very well and has been an award candidate for the past two seasons in the Big 12, which is no small feat. It definitely wouldn’t be a stretch to see the Ottawa native starting next season in the CFL.

Anthony Parker, Calgary, Slotback

Parker, who grew up just south of Calgary, has been a Canada West All-Star for the last two seasons, and he was also picked to go to Orlando for the East-West Shrine Game. His big-play ability is made for the larger CFL fields.

Vaughn Martin, Western Ontario, Defensive Tackle

Martin could have been the top pick in the last two CFL drafts, but he was picked up by San Diego in the fourth round of the 2009 NFL draft after starring for Western. The Jamaica-born Toronto-raised defensive end will always have a place for him in the CFL if things don’t work out in San Diego.

Tyler Holmes, Tulsa, Offensive Lineman

Like Mitchell, Holmes is also a native of Ottawa and his father, Richard, played in the CFL and USFL. Holmes was a two-time all-conference lineman at Tulsa and he has bounced back nicely from a broken leg suffered in 2009. Look for Holmes to follow his dad into the league, and he should do it as a high pick in 2011.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
