We have now enter the midway point of the 2014 season in the Q. There is no suprise as University of Laval Rouge et Or is at the top of the RESQ standings and is the number one team in the country with a record of 4-0.They have also won 22 straight games. The Concordia Stingers have had impressive start to the season as they have a record of 4-0 and also at the top of the RESQ standing. The biggest game of week five will have the Stingers driving to Quebec City to play the mighty Rouge et Or. Universite de Montreal keep on rolling with their dynamite duo of Cousineau and Davidson. The Carabins this season have only lost one game which was at the hands of the Rouge et Or. Sherbrooke who is usually in the third best team in the RESQ have had tough time this season and have lost two games. The Bishop Gaiters who were last season Cinderella story last season when they finished the year with a 6-2 record, this season the Gaiters have fallen to have a winless record. The McGill Redmen have had a week and day they would like to forgot as they have suspended last season’s redmen offensive player of year, running back Luis Guimont-Mota. Mota was arrested last Thursday and accused assaulting his wife.If that was not bad,Redmen’s coach,Clint Uttley resigned on Tuesday because he believed that Mota deserves to get a second chance and the Unnniversity would not provided him one.Redmen have yet to collect a victory this year.It could be a long second half for the team.Redmen are currently on a bye week but will be playing the other winless team,Gaiters at home next thursday night in the annual Turkey bowl game.

Mid-MVP– Two words-Hugo Richard. Richard just started his bright CIS career and has already electrified the CIS with the Rouge et Or.Richard in four games he has passed for 1340 yards with eleven touchdowns, both of these numbers have him as the CIS leader in passing and only has one interception. Richard also has 68.5% on passing rate. He is the potential Hec Crighton award winner but if he does not win this year, there is no doubt that he will win one someday maybe even two.

Defensive MVP– Kris Robertson, DB for Concordia Stingers. Robertson was drafted by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2013 after he had great year with the Stingers that year,he was named second team All-Canadian due to his kick returning skills and also had four interceptions. Robertson however tore his ACL and did not play a down a CFL football. This year,he is back for his fifth year with Stingers and is showing the CIS what they missed last season when he was gone. He has four interceptions in four games which puts him as CIS leader in interceptions,he also has 10 tackles.. He is one of the big reasons why the Stingers are currently undefeated.

Special team MVP-Boris Bede,Laval Rouge et Or.Bede has been one of the best kicker in the CIS this year. Bede is perfect at everything he has done from field goals where he is 17/17 to extra points made, 22/22. Bede has a great long leg as most of his field goals are are not cheap shots.Bede has accomplished two 37 yarders, one 34 yarder and in his biggest game of his career against Bishop,he kicked a 38 yarder where he also went 8/8 from the line.

Midseason shock-Concordia Stingers. The Stingers have been the talk of the town and the rest of Canada as they are 4-0 to start the year. Stingers who last season finished 0-8 which might have caused their coach, former CFLer Gerry Mcgrath to retire. The Stingers spend most of the offseason looking for a new coach until they found the right man in former Stingers linebacker and President trophy award winner,Mickey Donovan.Donovan has brought his upbeat personality to the Stingers this year and has helped spread the message of what it means to be part of the Maroon and gold family on and off the field. The Stingers are currently one of the best defensive team in the nation as they have 13 interceptions and four of those have been pick 6’s. The Stingers offensive has been good as well under QB,Francois Dessureault who has passed for 901 yards with 8 touchdowns and three picks in four games.

Projection for the rest of the Season-Laval will continue being undefeated and once again represent the Q in the Vanier cup. Universite de Montreal and Concordia will battle for second place but in the end,The Stingers will prevail. The two schools play each other on October 11 which surely seems to be a fun game.
