BLOG: Saturday Sacks (3rd edition)

Welcome to yet another edition of Saturday sacks. The RSEQ finished it second to last weekend of regular season play. We saw the Laval Rouge et Or continue its dominance beating the lonely 0-6 McGill Redmen, 53-14. The next game saw the powerful University of Montreal Carabins playing the 1-6, Bishop Gaiters. In the end the Carabins hammered the Gaiters by a score of 56-8 and also showed why they are the second best team in the RSEQ. The last game saw the Concordia Stingers taking on the Sherbrooke Vert et Or in the battle for third place in the RSEQ. The Stingers came into the game with a two game losing streak. The Vert et Or manhandled the Stingers to get a shutout 29-0. So without further a due here is my picks for Defensive players of the week.

Laval: Rouge Et Or defensive lineman, Vincent Desloges had another solid game as he had two sacks which result in a seven yards losses. He had 2.5 tackles. Desloges leads the CIS in sacks with 10 in seven games. He also is second in the CIS in sack yards. Desloges has a great chance to be in the running for the President trophy this season (Top CIS defender).

McGill: Redmen linebacker,Karl Forgues had unbelievable game in the lost to Laval. He had 11 solo tackles and also had two sacks which result in 11 yards loses.Forgues also forced fumble in the game. Forgues has been a bright star for the Redmen all season as he has been a tackling machine. He has 66 tackles this season which is good enough for him to be ranked second in the CIS in that category.

University of Montreal: Carabins linebacker, Bryon Archambault had solid game in the victory over the Gaiters this past weekend. Archambault had one sack which result in 9 yard losses by Gaiters QB, Shane McDonald. He also had 5.5 tackles. Archambault is ranked second in the CIS in sacks this season with 8.

Bishop Gaiters: Gaiters linebacker, Justin Warden had a solid performance in the lost to the Carabins. Warden had 10.5 tackles for his best game of the season. Warden this season has averaged 6.1 tackles per a game which put him 15th in that category in the CIS.

Sherbrooke Vert Et Or: Vert et Or linebacker, Olivier Goulet-Veilleux had good performance in the win over the Concordia Stingers last Saturday afternoon. Veileux had his first sack of the season which result in a loss of seven yards. He also record his first forced fumble of the season. He also had four tackles. The Vert Et Or defense has been hot as of late because they have shutout their last two opponents (120 minutes without surrounding any points).

Concordia Stingers: Stingers Linebacker, Travis Bent had his best game of the season as he recorded eight tackles in the lost to the Vert et Or. Stingers defense in the game sacked Vert Et Or pivot, Jeremi Roch three times for a loss of 20 yards. The Stingers defensive this season has been one of the best in the CIS in takeaways. Stingers have scored four defensive touchdowns which places them first in the CIS in that category.
