BLOG: Sunday’s Sacks

Welcome to the latest blog. Β Last weekend was the ending of the RSEQ season. We had one thriller, one gigantic upset and one game that was easy win. Sherbrooke Vert et Or clinched the Mayor Cup with a 35-14 decisively victory over the Bishop Gaiters. This was their seventh Mayor Cup. The Montreal Carabins hosted the number one team in the country, Laval Rouge et Or. The Carabins have been a complete different team since these two met in the first week of the season where the Rouge et Or beat Montreal, 40β€”13. This time around it was a much different story as Montreal Carabins beat Laval, 13-9 which snapped a 25 game winning streak by Laval. The last game of the RSEQ was the Shrine Bowl between Concordia and McGill for the annual tradition. Last season Shrine Bowl was one for the ages as the Redmen overcame a 20 point at halftime to beat Concordia, 53-52. Redmen QB at the time, Pierre-Luc Dussault threw for 538 passing yards. He also passed for three touchdowns. This year’s Shrine Bowl was just as good as the 2013 edition as the Stingers needed a last second a 43 yard field goal by Keegan Treloar to celebrate the win, 30-28. The game featured five safeties and at least 6 rouge points.

Sherbrooke Vert et Or: Vert et Or safety, Alexandre GagnΓ©. Gagne was a big part of the Vert et Or Mayor Cup win. Gagne had one sack which resulted in loss of three yards. Gagne also 4.5 tackles in the game.

Bishop Gaiters: Gaiters defensive back, Jeffrey Rogers. Rodgers was good in the Mayor Cup lost as he had eight solo tackles and also recovered a fumble.

Montreal Carabins: Carabins linebacker, Byron Archambault had unbelievable game in the upset win over Laval. He had 6 tackles and four of those were solo. He also had a sack which resulted in a seven yard loss. He ended the year with nine sacks which was good enough for him to be second in the CIS in that category. The Carabins defense caused Hugo Richard to fumble the ball twice plus throw an interception. Archambault was named defensive player of the week in RSEQ and CIS.

Laval Rouge et Or: Rouge et Or defensive lineman, Vincent Desloges had five tackles in the lost to the Montreal Carabins. He also had two sacks which provided him with 12 sacks to end the year. His 12 sacks was a CIS best. I expect him to win the JP Metras trophy (Best lineman). Honorable mention to Shayne Gauthier on great game in the lost. He had nine solo tackles and added four more assists on tackles. Two of his tackles were represented a four yards loss.

McGill Redmen: Redmen linebacker, Karl Forgues was outstanding in the Shrine Bowl lost. Forgues had 8.5 tackles and two sacks which resulted in a loss of 11 yards. He also broke up a pass. Forgues ended the season with 74 tackles which put him third in the country in that category. He also had eight sacks which also put him third in the CIS in that category as well. He was snubbed of being named to the RSEQ team.

Concordia Stingers: Stingers linebacker, Arto Khatchikian. Khatchikian was great in the Shrine Bowl victory. He had 8 tackles and added 3 assists on other players tackles. The Stingers defense continued their great season in the turnover land as they picked off three passes by Redmen redshirt freshmen, Joel Houle. They ended the year with 17 total interceptions which was a CIS best.
