BLOG: Wild Boars fall, lose their QB…again!

Well It was a tough weekend for the Wild Boars, with such high hopes going into the game on Sunday in Cica Daca Stadium, we were all pumped and ready to go in front of our home crowd.  The weather was a bit warm at round 90 degrees but the field was in perfect condition.  The whole week before everyone was focused and was working hard for our teams one goal….Win a championship.

On Sunday we took a step back from that goal when we got trounced 23-60.  The first half of the game was pretty even when we were down only by 9 points 17-26 then when we came out we had to kick the ball and their import returner ran the ball all the way back for a TD.  That was our biggest issue this game.  They returned 2 kicks for TD and 2 more back inside the 30, with an additional punt return inside the 30.  So 5 times they either scored with out their offense coming on the field or with very favorable field position.  In the 2nd half we also lost our QB Santino Simone with a broken collar bone when he was rolling to the sidelines to just throw the ball away then he got jumped on and the D-lineman fell with all of his weight on him and broke his collar bone.  I could tell right away he was hurt and hurt bad.  Our back up Serbian QB just quit the week before because, and I quote “I want to play a different position.”  So I put chad in to run a zone read play and it ended up looking like Mark Sanchez back there as him and the running back fumbled and Vukovi picked it up and ran for a TD.   Now remember that’s now 6 easy touchdowns that were just given to the best team in Serbian and a top 10 team in Europe.  Of course they will look dominate when they get that many easy touchdowns.

I made a post on facebook the other day in a bit of frustration on how things have been going here.  Not that the team is doing bad (we are 8-2) but as in how this is one of the most trying seasons this team or any team has ever had.  We lose two import QBs due to injury to the same team and the same player actually, at the beginning of the season we were stuck not practicing when we were scheduled because of terrible weather and there is not a single nice practice field for turf field here in Kragujevac when every other CEFL team was outside on turf, the last 3 weeks have been nothing but thunder and lightning storms making it where if we could get the gym we would have a practice, the loss of a player/coach/friend in a motorcycle accident, and then our OL just decimated with injuries.  We started the season with 13-14 OL and now we are down to around 7.  Here was my quote

‘Football gods, Why do you hate the Wild Boars so much? Its summer time and for the last 3 weeks you have given us nothing but thunder and lightning storms, not to mention all of the injuries to our guys who work so hard. Despite your efforts to break our will we are 8-2 and going to kick the shit out of Novi Sad this weekend. So now what are you going to do about that??????””

This week we have been outside one but at least we got the gym and we added for our two imports a “Wild Boar” package so we can get our two imports the ball more.  With a makeshift line we need the defense to step up and have a great game.  I know they are ready because we have added a few things for them that has gotten them excited.  This weekend we travel to Novi Sad to take on the Dukes who are also 5-1 in Serbian League play.  What is interesting is that next week we play each other again in the Serbian League Semi Finals, but whoever wins this weekend gets the playoff game at home.  Its very important for us we win for one, no one wants to lose, and 2 but most important we don’t want to have to travel the 3 1/2 hours to Novi Sad two weeks in a row.  They have 2 imports on the team.  One of them is a running back who wen to Troy University, the second one is DB/WR.  (corrected because I got so much hate from being wrong about their imports)

After this week its playoff time for Serbian League then the following week we have our last CEFL game when we have to get on a bus (hopefully a double Decker bus) and head to Ljubljana, Slovenia to play the Silverhawks who we beat earlier this season at home.  When we win that game we will play in the CEFL finals.  So if we keep working hard and keep winning we will get to play “The Evil Empire” again in the CEFL and SAFF championship games.
Once again here at Safety-Blitz we want to thank Jean-Francos Nicollet for his amazing photos and coming to all but one of our game this year.  Hes a good man and an amazing photographer.
