Blues highlight 2016 Defensive Recruits

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues football team is pleased to announce six more defensive players to their 2016 class.

Mekhi Henry is a 6-foot-2, 260-pound defensive tackle from Brampton, Ont. The product of Philip Pocock S.S. earned both MVP and athlete of the year honours in his grade 10 and 11 year. As a member of the Mississauga Warriors in the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL), Henry was selected to play on Ontario’s provincial team and was named a top 100 player. He has accepted his offer socio-legal studies program at University of Toronto at Mississauga.

James Vlahos and Pietro Cammalleri join Henry on the defensive line this fall. Vlahos stands at 6-foot-4, 315-pounds and comes to the Blues from the Scarborough Thunder. Cammalleri is a 6-foot-0, 260-pound D-lineman.  Both will study at University of Toronto at Scarborough in social science and business, respectively.

Tagge Rive is a 6-foot-2, 225-pound linebacker from Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont. Rive was named the defensive MVP of the A.N. Myer high school team from 2012-15. He will begin his studies in math and physical sciences at Woodsworth College this fall

Fellow linebacker Jovantae Battis stands 5-foot-11, 225 pounds and joins the Blues from CEGEP Champlain. He also played for Don Bosco and the Toronto Junior Argos and will begin his studies in social science at UTSC.

A duo of defensive backs join the Blues in 2016. Joel Fountain is a 5-8, 170-pound DB from Etobicoke. The incoming kinesiology major played for the Father Henry Carr Crusaders and the Toronto Junior Argos in the OFC.

The Varsity Blues open their 155th year of football at Guelph on Sunday, August 28. After a pit stop in Hamilton on Labour Day Monday, the Blues return to Varsity Stadium when they host the Carleton Ravens in their 2016 home opener. Tickets are on sale now.
