Boies appointed offensive coordinator at McGill, becomes fourth full-time coach on staff

MONTREAL – Pat Boies, a 35-year-old native of Montreal, has been appointed offensive coordinator of the McGill University football team, announced Clint Uttley, head coach of the Redmen, on Thursday.

Boies becomes the fourth full-time coach on the football staff since Sonny Wolfe stepped down during the 2011 season, joining Coach Uttley and the Donovan brothers, Patrick and Mickey. McGill has never had more than two full-time coaches on the football staff.

β€œPatrick has a reputation as a hard-worker, is regarded among the top young coaches in the Quebec football scene and will be a huge asset to our recruiting in this province,” said Uttley. β€œHe had a stellar playing career in our league with Laval and has had an equally impressive coaching career at the collegiate level, as an offensive and defensive coordinator, in addition to much success as a head coach.”

Boies recently stepped down after six seasons at CollΓ¨ge FranΓ§ois-Xavier Garneau, including the past four years as head coach. Last fall, his no-huddle, β€œspread offence” guided the Γ‰lans to a Bol d’Or Division 1 championship, posting an impressive 59-31 upset over league-leading CollΓ¨ge Vieux-Montreal in the final, to establish a Bol d’Or record for most points scored in a game. He also led F.X. Garneau to a Bol d’Or title in 2008 when they defeated Champlain-Lennoxville 45-23 in the collegiate AAA final.

He was the defensive coordinator at Collège Beauce-Appalaches in 2002 and served as head coach in France with the Cannes Iron Masks, which went 10-0 in 2005 en route to capturing the professional Div. 2 championship.

During his playing days, Boies was a second-team all-Canadian defensive back with the Laval Rouge et Or from 1997 to 2001. He served as a co-captain and helped Laval win their first Vanier Cup national title in 1999.

Uttley is expected to announce his complete coaching staff next week.
