Boies named Gaiters Offensive Coordinator

SHERBROOKE, Que. ā€“ The new era of Bishopā€™s Gaiters football continues to evolve. On Monday Pat Boies was announced as the new offensive coordinator at the Lennoxville university.

Boies comes to Bishopā€™s with a plethora of experience and success at a variety of levels in Quebec football.Ā  The former Laval Rouge et Or player was most recently the offensive coordinator for the Champlain Cougars in Lennoxville, a position heā€™d held since 2015.Ā  Prior to coaching at Champlain, Boies was the co-interim head coach at McGill as the Redmen completed the 2014 campaign.Ā  He moved into that role after leading their offensive unit since 2012.

As a player Boies was a Vanier Cup champion and second-team all-Canadian in 1999. He started coaching after his playing days were over.Ā  He was the defensive coordinator at Cegep Beauce-Appalaches for a season in 2002 and spent a year as the head coach of the Iron Masks de Cannes in France in 2005 where his squad won the Division Two championship.

He returned to the highest level of Cegep football in Quebec in 2006 where he was the head coach and offensive coordinator for College Francois-Xavier Garneau from 2006-2011. While leading the Elans they won two Bol dā€™Or championships and he was twice named Division One Coach of the Year. He was also part of the 2015 Champlain Cougars Bol dā€™Or championship.

Bois has been part of the Team Canada U-19 and Team Quebec U-18 coaching staffs.Ā  In 2012 Canada claimed the IFAF U-19 World Championship and Bois had the keys to the offence. In 2013 as the offensive coordinator for Team Quebec they brought home the Canada Cup Championship. Bois returned to coach Team Quebec in 2014, this time as head coach and offensive coordinator.

ā€œIā€™m excited to be part of the football tradition at Bishopā€™s,ā€ said Boies. ā€œI want to prove I belong in U SPORTS and look forward to working with our players and coaches to bring back the pride in Gaiter football. Itā€™s going to be stimulating to watch film and learn what the AUS brand of football is all about.ā€

Newly appointed Gaitersā€™ head coach Cherif Nicolas is thrilled with the addition of Boies to the staff.

ā€œThere are now three coaches here who have experience as offensive coordinators, defensive coordinators and head coaches at high levels,ā€ said Nicolas. ā€œPat brings a wealth of experience and is a proven winner.Ā  Heā€™s a great addition and Iā€™m really excited to have him on board.ā€

Boies starts in his role as offensive coordinator at Bishopā€™s University immediately and will lead the Gaiters offence as they open their season in the AUS on Saturday, Sept. 2 at Acadia.
