Boies released as McGill OC, replaced by Groulx

McGill Redmen has a new Offensive Coordinator.

After much speculation for several weeks, media sources have confirmed that Pat Boies has been released from his duties and replaced by Groulx.Β  Groulx was in attendance last week at the Redmen’s spring training camp.

The Redmen are expected to formally introduce Groulx at a press conference next week.

In January 2014, Groulx joined the Redmen coaching staff as Quarterbacks Coach.

He has quite an extensive resume.Β  Recently, he was program coordinator of Cure-Antoine Labelle Wolves while working with the Redmen.

For the last two years, he was the Offensive Coordinator of the Academie Saint-Louis Arsenal.Β  Previously, he served as the Offensive Coordinator with the Bishop’s Gaiters for two seasons (2010, 2011).Β  He also has experience of coaching the CEGEP Division 1 ranks with College Notre-Dame de Foy as well as coordinator duties with Team Quebec. Β Groulx served as an assistant coach of the under-15 (2007) and under-17 (2008) that Elites de Quebec squads that participated at the Wilson Cup Challenge. Β Moreover, he served as Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator of the Montreal Monarks of the Quebec Major Football League (QMFL).

Previous to coaching, Groulx enjoyed a successful CIS playing career as a quarterback with the Laval Rouge et Or.Β  He led the team to two Vanier Cup Championships (2006, 2008).Β  In 2008, he was awarded the Hec Crighton trophy for his exceptional play on the field and also chosen as a CIS All-Canadian.

The Montreal, Quebec native also previously suited up for CEGEP Division 1 team Vieux-Montreal Spartiates where he won three Bol D’Or Championships and named CEGEP ‘AAA’ MVP twice (2003, 2004). Additionally, he is a three time recipient of the Jeff Russel Award, given to the QUFL’s Player of the Year.

Sebastien Levesque has also joined the Redmen has been brought as the Redmen’s Running Backs Coach.Β  Previously, he was Special Teams Coordinator for CEGEP Division 1’s CNDF.

Rookie Head Coach Ron Hilaire will also be on the hunt for a new Special Teams Coordinator as Jerome Erdman will not be returning back in this position.
