WINNIPEG — The province of Manitoba is putting up $90 million in bridge financing so construction can start on a new 33,000-seat home for the Canadian Football League’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

As first reported by sportsnet.ca, the stadium is to be ready in time for the 2012 season.

The stadium will be located at the University of Manitoba and will also be home to the Bisons university football team. It will have a soft dome over the field so it can be used year-round.
It will have the capacity to expand to 40,000 seats for championship games. The CFL has made a commitment to award a Grey Cup final to Winnipeg within five years of the facility being built.
