Ontario & Nova Scotia standouts recently join AUS team’s 2014 class.

Recently, the Mount Allison Mounties announced two recruits to their football program.

Ontario defensive back Mickey Valcius and Nova Scotia offensive lineman Liam Hickey will join the team for the 2014 AUS season.

MICKEY VALCIUS:

The 6’0, 165 pound defensive back from Mississauga, Ontario recently completed his high school career with St. Roch Ravens of the Region of Peel Secondary School Athletic Association (ROPSSAA).  In the 2012 season, he was named Ravens Offensive Player of the Year.

Additionally, Valcius has suited up for the Brampton Bulldogs of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).

As for the Mounties, they have great expectations for Valcius.

“Mickey has great athleticism and burst,” commented Mounties Head Coach Kelly Jeffrey.  “He is a very instinctive player with a huge upside.”

“With his size and speed he has an opportunity to be an impact player. We are looking forward to having Mickey develop in our program.”

With his commitment, Valcius became the first Ravens player to sign with a CIS team.

LIAM HICKEY:

The 6’5, 260 pound offensive lineman from Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia has been playing football since the age of 10.  Among the teams he has suited up for include Bedford/Sackville Saints and his high school team, Charles P Allen Cheetahs of the Nova Scotia Student Athletic Federation Football League (NSSAFFL).

This past November, the NSSAFFL recognized Hickey for his exceptional play on the field as he was named a Nova Division First Team All-Star at an offensive line position.

In spring 2013, the Nova Scotia offensive lineman helped the Metro Mustangs win the Nova Scotia Indoor Spring League Championship. Moreover, Hickey represented his home province as a member of Team Nova Scotia at the 2013 Football Canada Cup in Moncton, New Brunswick.

“Liam’s size and strength combined with his mobility make him a great prospect in our program,” added Jeffrey.  “To sign one of the top linemen in Nova Scotia is a big boost to our recruiting class.”

“Liam has the right attitude and skill set to contribute early in his career.”
